Are you still putting Camp Bastion as your address?

How much NCB?

None. Haven't owned a car in a couple of years. On account of stupidly high insurance. It's a vicious cycle. At the moment I'm renting cars when I need to make any long-distance trips.

Have you tried getting a 'classic'? You can get an older car that is reasonably cheap and then pay naff all for insurance. Can get a few really nice cars as well.

I'm just looking into this for my new car.

I'm seeing a range from 130 (express insurance? never heard of them) to 888 (Quinn Direct haha, they don't want my middle aged steady driver business then) with most around 170-250.

Lots of names I don't know. My current lot, Direct Line, want 333 (i think i'm being ripped off for staying with them).

Is Swinton any good for car insurance? I recognise them at least. Actually the RAC are 140. Might go with them as a member.

I'm downsizing. Been driving a C3 but only doing a thousand miles a year now due to the eyes so getting a little C1, for the no tax, low insurance, low fuel (as low as any fuel can be in these rip off times).

Nice. I take it you haven't mentioned the modifications you have had done to it.

Keeping it very basic. Also thinking it'll be ideal in 4 or 5 years if my son wants to learn as it shouldn't cost the earth to add him to my insurance on it when he is learning.

Fair point.

Our friend just added their daughter though and it wasn't too bad (as they are supervised by you your with years of history). Different matter when out there alone of course. Boys probably cost more though even with a parent.

He might be better off waiting until his mid 20's to own one ( i did, simple matter of affording it).

My dad was insured for around 500 on two cars and a bike. He tried to add me onto a Fiesta 1.2 under the same policy and it rose to nearly 3k.

Every time i see a young kiddie boy driving like a twat i'm going to be even more annoyed. Men really do get a lot more sensible as they age.

To be honest, car insurance is one of those things that I would purchase solely on price as j would hope that I would never come to actually rely on it.

I used to be insured with Swinton. Had no problems with them.

I know a lot about car insurance and it's providers. If anyone has any questions fire away - don't go asking me for quotes though I'm not Moneysupermarket.com

I must admit that I never made any claims on it, so it was bound to be straightforward. Their customer service seemed good though.

I agree with what you say about dickhead drivers. I'm 26, have only been driving for about 4 1/2 years and I'm already bored of driving like a dick. One of my girl mates, who is 35 drives like a nutjob, tailgaiting people on urban single-carriageway roads because they're not driving as stupidly fast as she does. I keep telling her that it's embarassing and doesn't impress me at all but she just gets annoyed and carries on. :fp:

The drive from the train station to her place takes 5 minutes at most and yet she insists on driving like a maniac and 'threatening' to overtake people by driving right up their arses. So pointless! You could only ever save a maximum of one minute on a drive that short.

I try to be a gentleman driver where possible, more through the concern that Id rather if someone else made a mistake then Ill have time to think/avoid. No sense in tailgating etc as all you do is increase your own risk of an accident and stress the guy in front. I will admit that I drive a bit fast though, mainly because its so easy to do in my car. I can take off from the lights and rattle through the gears in a few seconds and Im just blasting away, not that I get the chance to do that much as I do most of my driving right on the edge of the city in rush hours.

Whenever I feel like Im being a bit casual or a nob head then I just remember my giga high insurance premiums and take it easy.

In seven years of owning it I've never taken my car above 100 mph :fp:

I'm possibly the most boring sports car owner in history.
