Let's see how crazy I can make that final figure by the time I reach the 12 month mark :!:

How long is your commute? My Corsa has used more than that, but my commute is a 45-mile round trip.

About 15mins either way!

It's all the little trips and the random cruising/country drives that do the damage I suppose, even though the average mpg is coming back as 29.

"Smiles per gallon" is what I say though. I've had the car for nearly 3 years and just love going out for drives.

No expense is spared on maintenance and all that either. Just had 4x brand new Bridgestones fitted.

:datass:

I do like an attractive woman who knows cars or drives something punchy rather than the usual Fiat 500, Mini or a PCPed Audi A1 etc. Spotted a few round here driving Imprezas and even a Legacy B4.

My CTR is an FN2 so the last they made with a naturally-aspirated 2.0 engine. I'm really not one for all the turbocharging for the sake of economy/environment stuff. I want to enjoy myself!

I'd love to own a Type R one day, making do with my standard 8th gen Civic at the moment though. Someone where I work has a 55 plate Type R (so an EP3 one) and it's gorgeous, if I ever see a for sale sign in one of its Windows I'll be enquiring! The newest Type R seems rather divisive on its looks, personally I love it.m

Imagine you have a fair few smiles per gallon in your FN2 Type R Darkstalker :D

EP3's are really nice. They have the same engine as the FN2 but are lighter and with proper independent rear suspension so they are meant to be a lot more fun to drive. I just personally like the crazy, spaceship-like design of the FN2.

The newest Type-R (FK8) is...eh, I kind of like the back end but I'm not a fan of the FK8 design in general, even on the regular models. It's the slab-fronted front end, plastic panels of fake honeycomb mesh-like things on the back and the huge, estate style it seems to have that turn me off.

The FK2 that came before it is a head-turner for me. Shame that it was turbo'd though!

A lowish mileage, late model EP3 would be the dream as I've also read that they're fantastic to drive. Styling wise I think these look superb as well, better than the Type R's that came after it in my opinion.

I see what you mean about looks of the FK8 and the 10th gen civic in general. I like the styling (even though the front is a it flat), the main thing that puts me off getting one in the future is the overall size as for a hatchback they look huge! I find my current car on the large side for what I actually need and often I think about downsizing for me next car (whatever that may be as most cars just seem to be getting bigger in general).

I agree about the FK2's, look unreal from that angle with the four exhausts

For the benefit of Ad7's enjoyment, I've thrown away £1k on the Dodge last month on an engine clean, replaced actuator, replaced MAF and replaced Turbo Hose. The jolting is still present as is the engine limp home mode when the engine is under load. Really pissed off now because I need to find someone who can guarantee identifying the issue and fix it and not charge me for each thing they want to try.

The problem is, finding a turbo specialist on the internet seems strawberry floating impossible, all I can find are companies who will fix or sell a new turbo, but no one who will diagnose and tell me what the actual problem is.

Really not sure what to do now, whether to keep using the car and see if it dies, sell it to WeBuyAnyCar or trade it in for another MPV (although I really don't want to spend an unplanned £8k+). I was hoping to go to Scotland for a week next week and take the dog as I don't think he has a great deal of time left so it would have been nice to take him on holiday with us for once in his life but not sure if the car will get worse and not make a 1,200+ mile trip. It would also be difficult to get rid of the Dodge and have nothing whilst we have the dog plus a big MPV is a strawberry floating useful thing to have.

Really stressing me out now because I just want the strawberry floating thing fixed but it doesn't seem that anyone is up to the job.

Nobody can guarantee that, and anyone who says they can is lying.

I've given myself a glimmer of hope. Looked through all of my service records and unless the fuel filter is not listed as a separate item, it doesn't appear to have ever been changed. The service list in the manual does not show an interval for this but the original service schedule I got with the car shows it should be done every 3 years. If it turns out that this has never been changed, this could at least be the cause of the intermittent jolt problem....

To make things more interesting (expensive) I can see that when Dodge first started servicing the car (the first 2 years), they used the wrong schedule (for the petrol model) rather than the diesel model. Everyone who serviced it after this continued with the wrong schedule in the book so now it turns out I've missed 2 fuel filter changes, 3 reviews and possible changes of the accessory (previously fan) belt and crucially, potentially a timing belt change (service book says 60,000 miles/5 years, although another document says 90,000/10 years) as the petrol version has a chain.

Lucky the car is still running. Going to be expensive at the garage assuming I can get it booked in this week.

As risky as it might be, I'd definitely try to solve the turbo issue before sinking in the money for a timing belt change.

Had my wheels refurbed. This is going to be one of those 'the pics don't do it justice' things, because the before pics son't really show how bad they were, and the after pics don't do justice to the two-layered paint that responds to the light in different ways. I'll try to get some better shots done, but the weather's been shite since I got the car home.

Before, lots of corrosion, loads of kerbing (not me):

After, black chrome finish (so it's chrome when the light hits it, but darker in the shadows.)

Really pleased with it, if only because I'm not losing air now.

I now need to get serious about tarting up the paintwork, which is tired/hologramming in a couple of places. I've got clay bars and a machine polisher arriving this week.

I always forget about it until I wash it and then I remember oh yeah my wheels are glittery not matte

I don't think it is a turbo issue and have some confidence that the fuel filter is the culprit behind the problems. I used the car yesterday and if you accelerate the car slowly and keep it under 65 MPH, you don't have any problems. It is in decent condition so if the fuel filter doesn't rectify the problem I will just adopt a different driving style.

Poser - I bet now every time you park the car you glance around to have a look at the wheels. Amazing the difference a relatively small thing makes.

Have you tried taking the hose off the turbo and checking out the vanes inside? I had a diesel that would go into limp home mode whenever I booted it because the turbo was knackered and obviously sending signals to the ECU that kicked the limp mode in. I looked down the end of the turbo myself and the vanes were all loose and wobbly which was a sure-fire sign that it was knackered and needed replacing or rebuilding. Obviously, I don't know if yours was accessible as mine.

Ended up driving it around carefully and short-shifting all the time to avoid sending the revs high enough to engage the turbo and honestly, it was just not a way to be driving, stepping around a major problem under the bonnet. Hated it.

If you've already checked all of this and I've missed something you've already detailed then apologies.

I've not checked that but the engine only goes into limp home mode specifically when it is underload in 6th gear, I've never got it to do this in any other gear. The car has only done 47k miles so I think unless I've been very unlucky, it is not a turbo issue. Given that the fuel filter has never been changed and it should be on the 3rd by now, I think this is key to the problem with a jolt under acceleration in lower gears due to fuel restriction and the engine error in 6th gear, again due to fuel restriction but reporting an overboost error as best guess to what the problem is.

Booked in for Friday so all will be revealed then. Or maybe not.
