That sounds about right looking at them now. Was pretty quiet unless you had everything set to sport/track. It was great fun anyway.

Now that I'm bikeless, i've had to book my car in for MOT on Wednesday. It's a 2001 Celica and usually passes without any problems but I'm nervous this year as I cant afford even a small repair. Plus i'm moving house in 2 weeks so need it on the road. Fingers crossed!

I had the same last year out there. Did new Orleans to mobile and back.

I don't think the usual car hire places do the V8.

It's the engine that's in the ST I think though so still very nice to drive I agree.

There are some rental places that have the GT (which I believe is the 4L V8), I know you can get them from a big chain car rental place near the airport here. The easiest way to tell is that the V8's will always have dual exhaust, while the base has just a single pipe.

Had the Legacy for five weeks now, so thought I'd post some developed impressions.

It really is a great car. The ride and handling has taken a bit of getting used to after the Forester. The handling is way superior - it corners like my modded TT used to. So flat and sharp. I haven't found the limit yet, I can't quite imagine where that might be, TBH. The ride is much stiffer: speed bumps are ok, if you're sensible - I never used to slow for them at all in the Fozzer but you really need to now. However, there are a few level crossings near me and they are horrendous :dread:

The engine, though, is just great. You can be really civilised if you want. Stick it in Eco mood and just pootle around (eco mode really kills any throttle response).

However, put sport# mode on, get past 3k revs, and it's a strawberry floating animal. It's crazy really, because you just run out of road really, really quickly. It's actually turned me into a slower driver, which is a good thing, because if I put my foot down even slightly, I'm just braking again in a few seconds' time. So it's easier just to chill.

Oh, and the car gets more compliments than I was expecting. It's completely stealth/debadged, but I've had two people ask if it was a Spec B, then nod approvingly, and a further two people properly craning their necks as I went past. It's not loud or anything (does have a tiny bit of BPV pshhht noise).

Sport# is savage. Hard to explain how it feels unless you experience it for yourself. They aren't slow in normal mode but sharp is even a different beast than sport.

Glad you are liking it.

I really need to make some time to find a decent road and give it a proper blast soon. Annoyingly the best road I've encountered so far was just after I picked it up, but it was dark, and I didn't totally know where I was going, so took it very steady.

I am starting to chin-stroke a little bit re maybe some mods. Doesn't need more power, but I think I'd like a touch more induction noise. I think an induction kit might be a bit lairy, but I'll deffo put a performance filter on. And maybe get an uprated Forge BPV. I had one on the TT and loved it.

I need a new alternator :x

Lexus quoted me $599 for the part and installation, but they were out of stock, my mechanic can do it for $250 and he can do it tomorrow. :toot:

I was on a driving lesson today and had to turn right from a terraced street onto a 20mph single carriageway. There were cars parked on both corners so I had to peep and creep out. I thought it was clear as best I could and was coming out, when some guy whizzed down way over the limit from the right and had to throw on his brakes. I ended up almost perpendicular on the other side of the road just to get out of his way. I lipread the word dickhead from him, and that's fine (as an aside, I think he's a banana split but my driving instructor would've had a go at me for saying anything, and I know it's not really worth it). I could maybe have moved slightly more cautiously, but he was also going far too fast.

The problem I have is that I let these small things stew and then I make another five mistakes in the space of a few minutes, probably because I didn't flick that old wanker the Vs and think he's got away with mugging me off. It's really annoying because almost everyone else on the road is really nice and I haven't had too much hassle. Any tips for controlling my silly little victim complex and refocusing?

It's perfectly normal to react your behaviour after what happened and remember it does happen to almost everybody else like us. Some drivers may react worst, some drivers may react nothing or some drivers may react calmer.

Just compose yourself and focus on your driving. Try to not think too much or let anybody else affect your driving if you haven't done anything wrong. It's their fault or mistake, but you'll learn through the experience at same time and you should enjoy learning to drive. It's a part of driving where you can learn something new about their behaviour, their reacts and driving style.

I have seen a lot of various (from abysmal to good) drivers on the M6 every week. :dread:

Just enjoy and be a good driver if possible. :D
