Think I'm getting a train down then driving back up, probs via the family in Rugby, though TBC.

Fair dos. If you were coming my way could have a quick drive about thats all, I live by the peak district y'see.

My gas leak is getting worse, it was about 1 drop every 5 minutes before, now it's up to 1 drop every 6 seconds. Lexus have given me a tentative estimate of about $2000 to fix it, and that doesn't count replacing the fuel lines which will need to be done. I need to call my mechanic but the problem is getting the strawberry floating gas tank, which unsurprisingly is in short supply. Waiting for my mechanic to get back to me now on his quote.

I just talked to my guy, he said he found a used gas tank for $400, and the labour would be $180 but the problem is getting the tank and getting my car to my mechanic as he is 80km away from me since I moved.

Does anybody see the new rule about speeding since 1st of April?

It's a full of nuisance.

I think it won't make any difference cos I've been driving as usual as ever until my friends told me, "You better be careful!"

Is it some sort of zero tolerance thing?

Speeding laws seem to be very strict in the UK, that along with lots of use of cameras and such. I guess it's because you guys have more windy roads than we do here, but the use of cameras everywhere just seems like a money grab.

They've stuck a lot of new motorway cameras up recently, but as long as you understand when they're on, and drive with the flow of traffic, you'll almost certainly be fine.

I tend to be a reasonably fast driver, and I've been done for speeding four times in my life. I'm not proud of that, but given I've been driving nearly 21 years, it should give you an idea of how authoritarian it is.

That said, if I drove for a living, or was a rep or something, I'd slow right down.

I got done twice in my first 13 months, but since then never even been warned. I drive to suit the road with a bit of awareness, not like a maniac, which helps.

Since I got the Scoob most of my work drive is 71mph cruise control on the motorway and the country roads are usually busy with traffic so I only get to let it rip every now and then when its quiet anyway. Few opportunities to be caught speeding.

I don't think we are overly strict, normally there is a tolerance of something like 10% + 2mph. It isn't like you have to drive everywhere at top speed and then get caught out because you went over it, the speed limit is the maximum you can drive, no reason you can't drive less.

Although cars today can go much faster, the drivers are unchanged and a stupid mistake now gives others less time to react.

I've been driving coming up to 30 years and have received 2 speeding fines in that time (both in 2002 within 6 months, clearly people did not like the Alfa 156).

Seems a bit odd to me that cameras are only on at certain times is it during the busy or slow hours?

Here there are no speed cameras as far as I know, just cops with radar guns. I think it's because you can't be given a ticket unless they can prove it was you driving at the time.

I've been driving for over 10 years now but never had a speeding ticket, but I guess I am pretty careful. I very rarely put my foot down, and when I do it's just for a short burst, although, I know that is still technically wrong.

So in the end the gas tank cost $800 to replace, $400 for the tank and then 8 hours of labour although I was only charged for 4

Overall not bad considering I was originally quoted $1000 for just the tank by Lexus.

It is known as "variable speed limit". During busy periods (including accidents) the speed will be changed to control the traffic. I'm sure they do this just to strawberry float with us though, you will be completely stationary but the speed limit will say "40". If it says 40 I want to strawberry floating do 40.

I'm picking up the new Scoob on Friday. Needs new rear tyres so diverting through Rugby on way home so my brother (works for Kumho) can hook me up (sorry False, will have to take a raincheck on the drive).

Very excited, though. Feels weird buying a car I've not seen, but I had it sent to Subaru for a health check and they were far more thorough than I would have been.

The front ones are too healthy to get rid. I've got these ones cheap so it'll be a stop gap until next time and I'll get all four done. But yeah, point taken.

Picked up the motor. It's fairly savage. Will post more pics and impressions when not on my phone.
