Yeah, A50 can be love or hate. That bumping on the surface. :dread:

But, at the night, it can be lovely to drive though.

Yeah, I remember when I had a Fiesta ST and it was horrible. So, going slower was better and less bumpy. :dread:

Now, I've got a V40 and it's so much better. I didn't feel a thing from the surface.

If I was getting a Datsun I'd want this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1971-Datsun-5 ... Sw~AVYoIEf

Then drop something tasty in the front and sort the front wheels out.

Sorry Big Cheeze but that looks terrible. Would you even be able to insure something like that normally? Over here anything over 20 or 25 years you need classic car insurance.

Yeah, on classic insurance which would be easy.

It's a 13 plate - tyres needed replacing only because two of them were punctured too close to the corners to be patched. It was only a couple of months outside warranty period when the air con went but set me back £300.

We don't know what's up with it yet but it's lost power to go beyond about 20mph, seems to be revving when at a standstill and the engine light has come on, according to my brother(I'm in France ATM so will be getting the breakdown folk out when I get home). I actually think it might be the same thing that happened to it last year when I was driving.

I've booked it in for a service on Friday and will speak to someone about a valuation this week depending on what I find out about the issues.

Might be worth checking the coil pack. They're notoriously gooseberry fool on Vauxhalls.

For the record this is exactly what was wrong - one of the coils had burned out so the engine is now sorted. That's the second time in just over a year it's happened too.

Unfortunately, the car is still stuttering at random points and when it's at a standstill, and particularly seems to have a bit of difficulty just after a gear change in picking up initial speed - the car stutters a little but then picks up speed fine and moves ok. My initial suspicion was that the gearbox or clutch was strawberry floated but a bit of research suggests to me that the oil filter is needing changed. Does this sound right?

EDIT: Apologies by the way, I imagine that my inane and clueless questions in here are incredibly irritating. I am completely clueless when it comes to cars.

strawberry float yeah 8-)

Could well be. That will get changed when you get the car serviced. Even the most basic service includes oil and oil filter.

Stuttering doesn't sound like an oil change problem. Have you had the car serviced yet? Could be a lot of things, problem with injectors, spark plugs, leads etc.

Yes?

Good point, when the coil pack was changed were the spark plugs changed too? Should be changing both together, ideally.

It could be the fuel filter if it's old and clogged.

Gently-Parted Ringpiece wrote:Weird one last night. I was almost definitely followed by a dodgy bunch.

Was driving back from friends in Uttoxeter and the road was closed so I had to divert through Stoke. Some old Sprinter van with overbright HIDs swings out of a side road from nowhere and comes right up behind me. There are speed cameras all over the place and its a 30 limit so I was doing about 33, with traffic in front of me anyway. The van sits inches from me for a mile or so, I pointed out to the gf that it was odd and hes either a wanker or just not about himself. So then the lanes open up and I assume he'll blast past. Nope, Im sat in the left lane at the limit and he is inches from me still.

So we stop at some lights - at this point hes been on me for over 3-4 miles Id say - and I manage to see the driver through the HIDs now he is stationary. Two young asian lads fiddling about with some gooseberry fool on the dash and underneath but both staring at me. Im now thinking this is extremely bizarre. Next set of lights is a split to go left or right, so Im heading left, and the lights go red. For the first time so far the van keeps distance from me. I change last minute and head right and so does the van, changing lanes himself. Hmm.

Now we are on a dual carriageway with a 60 limit, Im at 62, the van.. right up my arse. This continues for another couple of miles, Im not interested in speeding away and getting done for the privilege. Then finally the van pulls up next to me and the pair of these nobbers just stare into the car and then they move past. But its still not over. They pull out in front of the car in front of me and slow him down a bit and then just sit there with one car between us. My junction is still 5-6 miles away and this continues. Eventually I pull into my exit and the van carries on and accels away.

Very weird experience. Gf suggested they were trying to goad me into a race, but in a van? I thought I was perhaps being scoped out and was also semi expecting to be crashed into for an insurance scam or hijack, had that have occurred I wouldnt have stopped tbh.

Time period was around 23:10-23:40.

Sounds like they were trying to do as you say and hit you for a scam, so may have been following you for that long hoping you'd brake test them or something.

Or they could have been following hoping to see where you live to steal it.

The Forester has gone. Got a decent amount for it. I had it valeted in the morning and it was still looking sharp.

It's been a great car. I'll miss it.
