Racing stripes actually improve fuel consumption if you have a petrol engine, depending on the paint it can make a difference of up to 15mpg!

Went to the new Porsche garage today with my parents as my dad is now thinking of getting a Cayenne.

Sat in a 2.5Litre 718 Cayman whilst we were there and was given the keys to start it up....it did sound very nice......

I don't know about the UK, but I know with my insurance company having racing stripes or other stickers on yiur car can actually impact the cost of insurance.

I know this because I once called to ask if repainting it might affect anything and they said the colour doesn't matter but stickers do.

Stripes on a 1 series look stupid as strawberry float. I once saw them being put on a car that was sold at the dealership I worked at many moons ago, and the guy put them on squint and with different thickness strips at the boot.

There was nothing the customer could do as he had already bought the car - but the stripes were strawberry floated in a 'just noticeable'/ ocd triggering way

Of course they will have an impact on the insurance, their real name is "go faster stripes". They are called this because they increase power by an equivalent 2-7 HP. I'm calling BS on Preezy's fuel consumption comment though. Although clearly the stripes improve aero efficiency (and therefore performance), an independent study shows that the weight of the stripes actually has a 4% impact on fuel efficiency.

Yes?

If you're that insistent on looking like a bellend, just buy this. It's cheaper and easier to apply.

Get two solid white lines painted up the middle so then at least it'll show what's under the car as you overtake stationary traffic like the split you are.

Perhaps I mis-remembered it, but I recalled watching a 5th Gear episode once where they drove from Glasgow to Bournemouth on a single tin of gloss brilliant white paint.

Still, we can both agree that there are measurable performance improvements!

How do go faster stripes compare to the colour red?

I know that red things go faster (that's why fire trucks are painted red), but would something that is say, white with stripes be as fast as something that is red? Also what is the performance difference to something with flames painted on the side?
