Explain?

I guess long horizontal stripes will add to the aerodynamic look of the car hence giving others the impression you are going faster and also that the driver is a racer type.

I'll save it for the future when I have a spare car which I'll pimp out with stripes and glowing lights for days I feel like driving like a lunatic lol.

This is why the average person thinks anyone that modifies a car is a retard.

"Oh wow look at those stripes, that guy must be a racer type driver." - a sentence no-one has ever said.

I guess it's the stereotype. Like BMW drivers have a reputation to drive faster than Mercedes Benz drivers.

"racing stripe allowed the driver to have an "aiming" point for his turn, and gave him a quick reference exactly where the center of his hood was"

"Racing stripes were originally used to help drivers realign a spun out car with the road"

Thank you! Enough said :!:
Good for BMWs where they are likely to lose the rear end on tracks

Rightey wrote:How do go faster stripes compare to the colour red?

I know that red things go faster (that's why fire trucks are painted red), but would something that is say, white with stripes be as fast as something that is red? Also what is the peformance difference to something with flames painted on the side?

I think we need No1FFF to paint his car red, carry out some 0-60 measurements and then see what the performance change is when different coloured stickers are applied.

Think back to the old video game Pole Position. Those lines on the road create the illusion of speed!

This is the correct answer, if you really want some crazy pimped out ride just save up and get something to turn into a race car, and drive it like a madman on a track.

Also don't throw your money away on all those appearance upgrades, just focus on the car itself.

Out of these three, which one do you guys think is best? They all have the same engine/transmission...

The $21K one is newer and has a nicer entertainment system, but that's a lot to pay compared to the $16K. The middle one has leather seats and most of the features of the top end one but no entertainment system, although that really isn't too big of an issue for me as long as I can hook up my phone. Also, I'm sure you'll give me gooseberry fool for it, but I actually like the colour scheme of the cheaper one, I had a pair of running shoes like that, I loved them.

Tough one. I'm not keen on it in white but I would want the sun roof and the entertainment system. I would check before buying any whether the entertainment system can be upgraded, you don't want a 3rd party one later only to find not all of the steering controls work with it. I do like the look of the cheaper one best, but I'd want to know how much more comfortable the leather interior is. Just remember that once you've bought the car you are stuck with most of the spec (I.e. If it came without sunroof and leather you will never have them). First be 100% certain on the spec (and colour scheme) you want, then find it.

I've all but decided my next car is going to be a Legacy Spec B GT.

Something like this, which is a fresh import and costs £9k.

That one is 'Tuned by STi', ie not a full-fat STi (though, it comes with 270+ bhp so will still shift), but does come with big Brembos, strut braces, stiffer Bilstein suspension, etc.

I'm hoping to find a post-2006 6spd manual, but will settle for an auto with paddles if I have to. I just need more floor space in the boot than the Forester has.

So I recently got myself a new set of tires and Ive noticed that my fuel consumption has taken a bit of a hit. When I got the car it had a new set of Continentals on it, when I went to get them replaced they were €170 per tire so I went for the budget option at €80 a tire. I was relaly only worried about mileage as I have a pretty long commute so it wouldnt be much of a saving if I had to change these again after 6 months but guy who fitted them reckoned Id get the same mileage out of them for half the money so I went with them. But I have noticed that my consumption, as reported by in car computer has taken a bit of a hit. I used to average 6l/100km with the old tires but since I got the new ones I cant seem to get below 6.5l/100km. Its not a massive change but over the life of the tires it could be the sort of change that would justify paying a bit more for the better tires.

Has anyone had this issue with tires affecting fuel consumption like this? Is it a thing that can happen? Could it be down to tire pressure and I should run these at a different pressure?

I've never paid attention to this, but it is a "thing". When you buy tyres in the UK, they have a fuel rating of between 'E' (worst) to 'A' (best).

Got a courtesy car for three days. My car is in for the service and respray the left rear bumper as somebody did clip it but he or she didn't tell me when or where. :x It is not that bad, but it would be nice to know who did it though.

Anyway, I have a V40 Cross Country D2 and it is slow. :dread:

Thats a massive difference. Most like it is your tyre pressures.

Talking about tyres I recently got 4 new tyres (Goodyear Efficient Grip) but completely the wrong loading 91V instead of XL 94V or Run flats. It totally ruined the handling of my car and i had to buy another 4 tyres (Pirelli P7 Cinturato). Managed to recoup some of the cost back by selling them on gumtree though.

I was just in California and while driving my rental car (a Chevy Cruze hybrid - awful) in LA, I overtook somebody in a pick up truck, then when I stopped at the next red light he casually rolled into the back of my car. I got out and he just sat there as if nothing had happened, I had to tell him to back up off of my bumper so I could see the damage (minimal). I approached his window and asked him wtf he was doing and he just casually gave me his license and insurance without saying a word. I took photos and then he just nodded and drove off. banana split.

Overall the standard of driving over there was very poor. The traffic is the worst I've experienced anywhere and isn't helped by the amount of people that hesitate for no reason and the fact that nobody ever lets anybody else in.

Saw this in Beverly Hills though:
