Is laminate not very 90s? Wood's the best.

In which room of the house? It's a different choice depending on the answer to that.

Having just gone through all this, engineered wood all the way. Connects the same way like laminate but with a thin layer of wood on top for a more premium feel and a fraction of the cost.

I prefer Carpet. Less echo and it feels warmer. In my experience those who have laminate or wood throughout the house regret it but rarely want to admit it. I know who you are.

Most laminate is wood these days, sure you're not thinking of lino?

Carpets are a pain in the arse if you're a wheelchair user, they end up getting churned up by the wheelchair wheels and get covered in tyre tracks.

Hardwood everywhere except the kitchen and bathroom.

How is this even a question?

If you want warmth or to cancel out an echo get yourself a nice area/bearskin rug.

Hard floors downstairs, carpet upstairs.

Anything else is craziness.

Carpet in the bedrooms, Lino in the kitchen and bathroom, wood in the dining and sitting room.

Ideally; carpet in bedrooms, tiling in bathrooms and kitchens and wood everywhere else.

Carpet is a major pain in the ass if you have pets.

Or children. We have the worst faded browny pink carpet in our hall and playroom, but to change it now would be insane. Not a day goes by without some sort of spillage.

Just had our bathroom done and gone with wood effect tiles. They're nice.

Has anyone ever stripped carpets back to bare floorboards? That's my major house project for next year and I want to know if anyone has any horror stories. Some of the rooms have laminate already, but the carpet the old owners put in is coming off so I want to get rid as easily as possible.

Do not do this if the carpets are around 10 years or more old, the foam underneath is disintegrated and toxic.

Also there will be random tiling, fireplaces and other broken stuff underneath so be prepared for it to not actually all be floorboards, also they creak like crazy.

For me I would say laminate, preferably real wood, with Hungarian rugs.

Im in rental with carpets now and they are basically ruined after 6 months and my workshop is totally flattened because I have a proper metal frame/stand chair with wheels I work on, it's literally a pancake. I've considered just putting panel flooring over it.

But surely the best thing is linoleum. Top stuff.

Linoleum is so cheap though, just like that manufactured wood flooring. Your floors are something that should last for years, so you might as well make a proper investment and get real hardwood.
