Played this last night with two friends for about 3 hours. Mighty craic. 'twas like being 12 again playing 4 player Ninja Turtles in the arcade.

It gets fairly frantic at times, though. I can only imagine how much more confusing it could get with 4 players.

Been playing the demo for the last few hours, with my wifey and son.
Its bloody awsome, fantastic art style, great combos, melee ranged and magic attacks.

And the music puts the icing on an already perfet cake for me. As a result i have ordered points from tesco, they cant come soon enough :D

Is this fun in single player? (I haven't tried).

I sort of want to do it co-op - any planning?

Depends on how much you like this kind of thing.

Ever play SoR2 on your own? If you liked that you'll like this.

Oh and if any of you never played SoR2 and like CC, I'd suggest you go buy the game now from XBLA, its the best 400 point game available.

Castle Crashers patch on the way, DLC planned

Speaking in this interview with Joystiq, Behemoth art director Dan Paladin has conceded that there are problems with daftly popular XBLA game Castle Crashers, but has assured that help is on the way.

“Yeah, there are certain network settings where, if you’re in a very specific network environment, it won’t work with another person’s connection and that’s what’s happening,” he said.

“But that’s something we’re already addressing by working with Microsoft to get a patch out as fast as possible.”

Lead programmer Tom Fulp also confirms there that DLC is on the way, but refuses to confirm what it is. Some people are just so fussy.

Probably new characters will be the main bulk of DLC perhaps maybe an arena featuring all the bosses?

White Knight fires arrows and bombs - just damage only.

I played this with Buffoloman and Pedz last night - it ran smoothly for about 30 mins then kicked my mate. I am hoping that the patch will fix all the issues as I want to complete it co-operativly.

Finally downloaded this last night and played it right through to the final boss in one sitting. We got disconnected on the final form of the boss and had to start the entire level again so we're going to finish it off tonight.

I chose the Green Knight and he's currently level 20 with Magic completely maxed. :D

It's a great game with genuine humour, the sooner they fix the disconnect problems the better.

First Castle Crashers DLC details divulged

While it (hopefully) furiously cranks away at a network play patch for its excellent – yet bug plagued – XBLA release, Castle Crashers, The Behemoth took a moment to confirm a couple of DLC details on its dev blog. When we spoke with the team at PAX, it was unready to reveal anything; now we know about two additional characters and a wicked weapon.

The characters in question are the King and the Necromancer. The weapon is ... a chainsaw. (OMG! [Seriously!]) Don't expect them soon, though, since The Behmoth says that, "Castle Crashers has some online issues as well as other technical difficulties that we are focusing on before anything else. That is our top priority." That's good to know, since, well ... we'd kind of like to play the game together. Oh, and for those who might suspect otherwise, the team confirms that the DLC is actually DLC – it's not stuff that's already in the game, just waiting to be unlocked for a price.

My brother and I completed this today. Had no potions for the final boss so was on tenterhooks for the entire fight as we had to mad-dash to revive each other. Just a shame the end of the game feels cut short because Princess three goes straight to the last level.

Now I have insane mode which I am looking forward to and dreading in equal measure. Played as Green so unlockedChain Face

If anyone wants to run through it online give me a shout.

The Behemoth: Castle Crashers Hits 250k Players, Fixes Coming

Indie developer The Behemoth released Castle Crashers just over two weeks ago, and has told Gamasutra that the game has now reached 250,000 players, also revealing patch plans for the game and a 5-fold increase in Alien Hominid HD players due to CC's release.

“I’m pleasantly surprised that so many people are playing the game,” says Behemoth lead artist Dan Paladin to Gamasutra, confirming that a quarter of a million players are now on the game's leaderboards. “I was optimistic and hopeful for Castle Crashers but I wasn't prepared for the reception it got."

The company released Alien Hominid HD, an update to its original retail title, earlier in 2007 -- but with the release of Castle Crashers, which has multiple references to that other title, Alien Hominid HD has climbed up the leaderboards.

This doesn’t necessarily imply many additional sales, but those who purchased it are dusting off the game, partially because obtaining one of its achievements unlocks a character in Castle Crashers.

“Before Castle launched, Alien was doing pretty well and selling very consistently,” says Paladin. “But since launch we've seen a rediscovery of the game and approximately five times the number of people are now playing the game compared to earlier this year.”

Was The Behemoth worried about how the overt “buy our game” messages would be received? “Not too much,” says Paladin. “Most gamers know that Castle Crashers exists because our hardcore fans bought Alien Hominid HD, which helped keep the doors open to develop Castle. The Behemoth is a small company doing one game at a time and not a mega-publisher with money to burn.”

Naturally, the big topic at the moment is the connectivity problems the game has faced, with online matches frequently dropping players and losing their experience points.

“We've made a number of changes,” Paladin says, “but they are difficult to test fully until it is released to the public network. We are doing a lot of testing on a private network, but it isn't exactly the same. As for timing, Microsoft has a detailed process that we must follow for fixing issues that crop up after release. It is not a simple process of fix something and release an update.”

“You fix, you test, you verify in as many situations as possible, you fix again if you need to, you submit the update to Microsoft, they verify the fix, etcetera," he continues.

"It goes on for a while. Feedback from our community has been great -- specifically our forums -- as it gives us information to work with to resolve these issues. As for when it will be done and released, we are working as hard as we can on it so we really appreciate everyone's patience and support.”

The Behemoth: Release of Castle Crashers patching nearing 'end of the process'

Ever since its release, Castle Crashers has suffered from wonky Xbox Live co-op gameplay, a problem developer The Behemoth has addressed and promised a prompt fix for. Now, after over 3 months of patient waiting and hearing word that the game fixing patch entered Microsoft certification, we still have no Castle Crashers patch. So, we reached out to the crew over at The Behemoth to learn what's taking so darn long and were told:

"We're working with Microsoft to get the title update out as quickly as we can. Sadly, we can't get into details about the certification process, but we've resolved the game's issues with data loss and networking in addition to other bugs. We can't really comment on the release yet as we're not allowed to talk about it because of Microsoft, but the update's release is definitely reaching the end of the process.

We've received great support from our fans on our forums in identifying issues. That feedback has helped out a lot and we're really honored to have such an awesome group of fans in the community."

So, The Behemoth is keeping mum, but still plans on releasing the patch as soon as possible. Hopefully sooner than later, because our XBLA focus has moved on over these past few months. That said, The Behemoth could lure us back with some new DLC ...
