Anyone watching the premier tomorrow? And is this thread likely to get any traffic? If so I'll update the OP with info.

I couldn't find a thread on this, so if you did have one, suck it.

I'll be here. Castle :datass:

Love the show but definitely think they should start winding down a bit, one or two more seasons tops.

I love this show.

Though I do feel now is the time to end it, given that they closed off Beckett's mother's murder.

It'll be interesting to see what takes over (presumably they have big plans for 3XK) and whether my brother's theory about last season's cliffhanger is correct Castle's dad fakes the crash to protect his son from someone... 3XK perhaps, or a vengeful Bracken

They've spent a lot of time focusing on Beckett's mother's murder while keeping 3KX in the background as a sub-plot, to be expanded when they run out of material for the other one. I suspect Skippy and his brother are both partially right, and Castle's father has briefly faked his disappearance to stop a plot to kill him at the wedding. The synopses for the new series all focus on a secret that Castle is going to need to keep for the protection of those around him, so my guess is that it's to do with 3KX, the flaming car and Castle's dad.

That was a bit disappointing no answers, just more questions. Seemed to be setting up a season-long arc.

I was happy with it. I'll be absolutely shocked if Castle genuinely doesn't remember everything he did during those two months away.

I thought that was terrible.

Ignoring some very odd character choices (Javier being so condemning so quickly etc).

This massive, far reaching conspiracy to set Castle up - untangled because they didn't think they might go back to ask a witness more questions the next day? Stupid.

Maybe it was down to Castle and he had the guy there to give them info, and disappear to make him look like he was taken? I doubt it, but that would be a reason which would make it not stupid.

Not sure if this is going to be the new story arc to replace the finished Beckett's mother plot, or resolved in a couple of episodes. Not sure I like the idea of it dragging on for a whole series or more but then again they do need an arc, can't just be victim of the week every time.

Wasn't a fan of the episode. The reaction of Castle's Mum & Daughter watching him "burn to death in a car" wasn't exactly intense, maybe they thought 3 women going nuts was too much. I assume different aspects of his disappearance (chucking money in a bin, being on the boat, denge fever, a key with a number, being shot etc) will be solved over several episodes throughout the season.

Episode two sort of answers this criticism - the guy appears to be on Castle's side, not the conspiracy.

Makes it even more convoluted though. We'll see how it goes.

:toot: i love this show, i look forward to a new episode every week. It's very cheesy in places but that's one of it's main things i enjoy plus Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic of course. The supporting actors are also really well done and i've enjoyed the odd episode where it's focused on Ryan and Esposito.

Castle Casting news/Spoilers -

‘Castle’ Shocker: Stana Katic Out For Season 9, Tamala Jones Gone Too

EXCLUSIVE: Caskett no more. I have learned that ABC is planning a ninth season of the venerable crime procedural without one of its two stars, female lead Stana Katic, who plays Detective Kate Beckett to Nathan Fillion’s writer-turned-PI Rick Castle. It is the main part of a major shakeup on the series, which also includes the departure of fellow original cast member Tamala Jones. Fillion has been in negotiations to return to Castle, which I hear is eyeing a shortened, likely 13-episode, ninth season, at a reduced license fee.

I hear the decision for Katic not to return was made by ABC and ABC Studios. Both Fillion and Katic last spring inked one-year contracts, which are up at the end of the current eighth season. While the studio started making overtures to Fillion for a new deal months ago and has been in on- and off- talks with him since the beginning of the year, I hear Katic was never approached to re-up her contract and was not offered an opportunity to continue on the show. Instead, I hear she, as well as Jones, were informed late last week that for budgetary reasons, they won’t be asked to come back for Season 9.

Katic would not comment on the circumstances surrounding her exit. When asked about the departure, she told Deadline, “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”

Since Castle has not been renewed, ABC would not comment on any plans for the length of the potential Season 9 but confirmed to Deadline that Katic and Jones won’t be part of it.

“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC said in a statement to Deadline. “Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle.“

Jones played the whip-smart medical examiner Lanie Parish who was Beckett’s close friend and confidante. “I’ve had so much fun playing the wonderful and unfiltered Lanie over the past eight seasons,” Jones said in a statement to Deadline. “I will greatly miss the cast and crew – it’s been a privilege getting to work with this incredibly hard working group of people. Thank you to ABC for this opportunity and to the fans for their unwavering support. It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for what lies ahead!”

As if it wasn't clear enough that the show should have ended after season 6
