The Christmas special is the next episode I have to watch. Do I watch it this weekend, or save it until Christmas?

It is obviously Christmas themed, but it isn’t really about Christmas and probably will not make you feel at all Christmassy.

I’d watch it now.

It's the same time of year I watch the League Of Gentlemen Christmas special, and that isn't something to put you in the most festive mood.

There’s nothing as scary in Black Mirror as Papa Lazarou (sp?). :dread:

Save it for Christmas, 100%. Just skip on to the next episode, you don't need to have seen it.

Edit: just saw Moggy's response  . I think it is quite Christmassy, TBH. I'll be re-watching it then.

strawberry float. THAT.

That was so god damn dark. Still thinking about it this morning.

I basically get that with every single episode

To an extent, but that one was just a step above for me, I mean...

Dying while experiencing the worst nightmare your brain can imagine, alone in another country. All because you left your phone on

At least the main characters in the other episodes didn't die, and if they did it wasn't to something meaningless and trivial like that

Really enjoyed the first episode of season 4.

Didn't know whether to have sympathy or joy at that ending. The gamer-gate overtones pushes a once sympathetic character into a morally very grey area.

Overall a very strong season and loved Hang The DJ and Black Museum a little more than the other 4 with Metalhead being the weakest imo.

Just watched the first of the new episodes. I enjoyed it but there is one plot point I found very hard to look past:

Todd is the ultimate admin with godlike powers but he couldn't put a stop to the final chase with a click of his fingers. Seriously?!

USS Callister:
That was great! I had no idea what to expect with this one, but I just love the way it revealed itself in the first half and was way darker than it looks. There are a few plotholes, and I wasn't so keen on the ending but that was still top-tier TV.

Just finished watching them all.

I strawberry floating love Black Mirror and this was as good a series as the others.

USS Calister was much better than I thought it was going to be from the photos I had seen before watching. I wasn’t a big fan of the ending, but it wasn’t awful. I liked Jessie from BB being the troll gamer.

Arkangel is probably one of the weaker episodes but it spoke to me as a parent. It’s obviously out of order to spy on your kids like that, but strawberry float me I’d sign up like a shot.

Crocodile was great, although I could have done without the “but the baby was blind!!” joke. I loved how the character was sympathetic at first and then quickly turned into a monster as events overtook her.

Hang the DJ was amazing. Just amazing. One of those rare Black Mirror episodes that is a nice and happy story. And that would be fantastic tech, 99.8% accuracy that you’d find the right “one”! I’d be interested in seeing what happened in the 2 times out of 1000 though. ;)

Metalhead was a decent if not great episode. I think it really suffered from following Hang the DJ, while binging I was still processing that while Metalhead was starting. It managed to do more with the apocalypse in 40 minutes than the Walking Dead has done in 8 seasons.

Black Museum was the second best episode, nicely dark with stories that are terrifying. I liked the nods to other Black Mirror episodes and expect there were lots that I missed. I’m at a loss to see why any husband would agree to allow the personality of their wife into their heads though. ;)

Awesome series

Arkangel:
I've seen that this episode is bottom of a lot of people's rankings for this season, but I thought it was good. It felt a lot like a S1/S2 episode, and again used some tech from White Christmas. The ending was satisfying, coming full circle from the start and didn't need a big twist. If this is the worst then that bodes well for the remaining episodes.

Yeah I agree with that. It might be one of the weaker episodes but that’s not a big criticism, they are all good.

Just watching USS Callister and I'm fuming at the hatchet job it's doing on Star Trek TOS.

I'll watch episode 2 on the basis that San Junipero was one of the greatest things I have ever watched and Brooker deserves a second chance!

Crocodile:
For me this is the best of the first three episodes. John Hillcoat is one of my favourite directors and the icy location made for some stunning visuals.

The first two episodes re-used some ideas from previous episodes but I feel this one was quite original - someone trying to cover their tracks in a world where memories can't be hidden. Gets pretty extreme at the end, and with one of the most Twilight Zone endings yet!

Hang the DJ:
Just brilliant! It had everything really and great chemistry between the main two characters.
They got me with the double bluff in the middle of the episode, but that also made the ending not quite as surprising as it could have been. The use of cookies has also become a bit frequent this season, so I hope they change things up again next season to keep us on our toes.

Metalhead:
Well this was very different but I enjoyed it just much as the previous two episodes.
Incredible visuals once again, the black and white really worked. That scene at the start with the GPS tracked bullets in a sort of nail bomb was so unique and horrifying that I was still thinking about it halfway through the episode, and then it comes back at the end for the ultimate payoff. Great stuff!

Seen the first 3 now. Crocodile was the best episode but frankly I felt the large budget actually did a disservice as it didn't feel as intimate as episodes like White Bear or Shut Up and Dance.

Definitely get the feeling a lot of ideas are being redone this series which is a shame as it feels a bit like a US remake of earlier series. It's not bad, but not as good as it has been.

Just finished the last episode. I'd say with some confidence that this was the best series so far.

4>1>>>5>>>6>2>>3

I enjoyed episode 1 so much that I'm willing to forgive the awful plot point I raised earlier in the thread. Its punishment is to drop down into second place in my ranking!

For some reason I really just did not care about what was going on in episode 3. Episode 2 was a bland story saved by a strong script. Episode 6 felt like it had been done before and was just being dark for the sake of it.

Episode 5 was a cool standalone story.

Episodes 1 and 4 can take their places in the Black Mirror hall of fame.
