Looking to get a cheap, legal version of Office. Don't want a subscription based service, just want a one off fee. I have kids at school so I can qualify for the sites that sell the student deals, but I want Outlook for my e-mails and Office 2013 doesn't seem to include this. So 2010 professional is probably what I'm looking for, but the student version seems to be over £100 but when I bought 2007 a few years back, it was only about £30!

I know you said no subs but the family version for £80 a year is cracking value. Just need 4 other like minded souls to join in. £16 each a year...

Hate the idea of paying yearly for software or any subscriptions for that matter. We all have Office 2007 at home which is fine, just need another license. Might try Open Office. Does anyone know of a decent Pop3 e-mail client for Windows 8?

Check if your workplace is part of the Microsoft Home Use Programme. It allows employees to usually buy Office Pro for under a tenner.

Yep, found that and been using it quite happily for the last few weeks :)

Open Office also seems very good, can't see me getting Office for private use when I have to pay for it.

Can you not use the built in Mail app, I use that. It takes a little getting used to as it is Metro not Desktop but it worsk great.

Wanted to, but doesn't work with POP3. :x

Worst part is, originally you couldn't select POP3. But then MS "fixed" it so you can, but when you select it, you are told the app doesn't support it. :fp:

Ahh, odd that a mail provider doesn't support both POP and IMAP. I thought most supported both.

I got the lucky one. Called them up for the settings only to be told they don't currently support it.

Probably, but they've (Post Office) just written to me informing of an increase to line speeds by end of 2013.

Doesn't mean you have to use their email though.
