Chessington Closes Bubbleworks!

For me saw is up the as a favourite with smiler (except one if the last corners that is a bit jolty)

I like Saw, but it can be a little too rough to really be *up there* with the best. If you get a smooth ride it's incredible.

Really really hate the vertical lift hill, though :dread:

Not a nice sensation.

Chessington is gooseberry fool anyway. Thorpe Park is only a few miles away and is vastly superior.

Who builds a theme park next to London, though? Let alone two. Be reasonable.

I've never really found it to be rough, plus I love that vertical lift and fwomp over the top.

Yeah they're both way too close to the M25.

Definitely. A year or two after Chessington got 'Samurai' they shifted focus to just being a family park and zoo. Thorpe Park became the one with the thrill rides and coasters as it was easier to get planning permission. They even then moved Samurai from Chessington over to Thorpe.

Still, I'll never forget the time I went during England's first Euro 2000 game. The park was empty and we didn't queue for anything all day 8-)

If you want something with Family Park and Zoo elements, Flamingo Land is way better. Family Park? Check. Zoo? Check. Thrill rides? Check.
It's not exactly Alton Towers or Thorpe Park tier, but way above Chessington. Chessington is down approaching Lightwater Valley tier.

Yeah, nothing's really "themed" as well as Disneyland or anything, but you can't say the quality of the rides is really anything less than other parks.

No we have no true great theme parks. We have some great rides in our parks but our actual parks are gooseberry fool.

Thorpe Park is definitely not gooseberry fool. I can't think of a bad ride in the park and I've been on nearly everything there. Granted the only comparison I can make as far as overseas parks go is Port Aventura and when I was there they had Dragon Khan and not a lot else of note and Dragon Khan has been surpassed in terms of inversions by both Colossus and Smiler now anyway.

The rides at Thorpe park are great but as a park it's gooseberry fool. Port Adventura is a great theme park. Second best in Europe after Disneyland Paris.

Ah, I understand what you mean now. I think Thorpe is a decent park in general making very good use of quite limited space, Alton Towers on the other hand has far too much dead space where there is just nothing there.

This ride looks like a complete non event.

I've only been to lego land, but the dragon Castle there is quite good.

Yes I agree. When did u go to port Adventura? Was the shambhala and furius bacon there when u went?

I went to Port Aventura a long time ago I was in year 9 I think so your looking at April 97 or 98 if memory serves.

This ride was a must go on in the summer months, such good memories :wub:

Devastated. I remember my first visit to Chessington was Vampire, Bubbleworks, then something to eat in that cafe with the robot organ thing (it played the Match of the Day theme). That hour or so is just etched on my memory, probably because I was so excited to go. And now part of that will be gone. GONE.

Do you know what is always gooseberry fool? The runaway mine train. They are all garbage. Get rid of that.

Yeah you spend more time in Alton towers just trekking from ride to ride than even queuing up. Doesn't help that the park isn't level at any point. They'd make a killing if they had little golf buggies that carried you around for a few quid a time.

In fairness though, Alton Towers is somewhat limited in what they can do and where they can put things. They're not even allowed to have a rollercoaster that goes above the height of the tallest trees in the park, that's why so many of their rides are in dug out areas, they have to build down rather than up. I think the local residents always kick off massively pretty much anytime Alton Towers tries to do anything as well.

Yeah, I knew that about the treeline thing at Alton Towers. In fact until you get really close you would hardly realise there was a park there at all.

I've never been to Chessington but it does strike me as perhaps one of the lesser of the major UK parks but it's always a shame to see rides go particularly water rides which I love.

Guess I was the only one to be scared of this ride as a kid then.
