See how many we can think of.

"early/late Christmas present"

"Christmas cracker"

"wrapped up the points"

reference to a "Scrooge-like" defensive/goalkeeping performance

If Yeovil's loanee striker Gifton Noel-Williams scores on Boxing Day I'd expect some awfully gooseberry fool puns.

He isn't likely to though, since he's gash.

Anyone who makes a mistake will be a 'Christmas pudding', or someone might make a 'real pudding of that'. Teams conceding a late goal will have 'the stuffing knocked out of them'. There'll be 'plenty of Christmas cheer' for anyone who does well over the festive period.

Of a disappointing striker, the tabloids could ask 'Wencelas time he put the ball in the back of the net?' If that wasn't such an unwieldy phrase.

I'm going to bed now, bye.

It was a game of biblical proportions.

They'll have him crucified for that one.
