PostChristmas Gift Thread
by Captain Kinopio » Mon Nov 24, 2008 10:22 pm

I'm currently struggling to think of things I want for Christmas, so I thought it would be a good idea to create a general gift ideas thread since we're now only a month away from the big day.

Maybe if people could put down what they're currently asking for and what they're planning to get for other people we could have a nice thread full of ideas, recommendations and advice.

Fingers Crossed.

I've currently got my eye on to ask for:
A Russell T Davies book about writing Dr Who
Season 1/2 box set of Entourage.

I have to buy presents for
My 58 year old dad
My 56 year old mum

I'm thinking about getting them a new printer that can print straight from SD or do regular stuff. But I'm not sure if such a thing exists.

My 26 year old brother - No Idea yet
My 24 year old brother - Probably some figurine or comic, some advice here would be nice (he owns The Last Man, Watchmen and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)
My 19 year old brother - Something 360 related probably

So share who you have to buy for and what if anything you've decided upon and if you can dole out some advice to others.

Fingers Crossed this works. :)

Well in all probability I'll be sharing the cost with my brothers.

I've seen one, the HP C5200, which seems to do everything I want, and that's £100, a bit more than I wanted to spend but fair enough if I can't find something elsewhere cheaper.

It seems like a good piece of kit and has decent reviews on the HP website, I don't really know all that much about computer accessories though and when it's a gift for my parents I'd really like to make sure it's right for them.

Dad - not sure, one of my sisters was apparently talking about a gravity watch (lolwut), and I was thinking a Puzzleball, but we really are struggling with him

Oldest sister - Sex and the City DVD and something else I haven't thought of yet

Older sister - digital photoframe
Her fiance - Forbidden Kingdom DVD

Girfriend - satnav for her new car, the cuddly toy off the John Lewis advert (the one the baby wants), and maybe something superlambanana related

Girlfriend's mum - Mamma Mia DVD (I'll have to strawberry floating watch it as well  )
Girlfriend's dad and brother - ???

Nothing.

As for other people, I've no idea. Probably end up them having a downbeat Christmas though... Y'know, 'cause of the shitty presents I'd give.

You can get those printers, we have one, tend to use the printers in town more though.

I don't have to pay for any presents for family, or even choose them, until I get a job 8-)

Grandparents are getting me an iPod Classic 120GB in Black I think. They like to buy us "big" things if that makes sense, something we're going to use everday and take care of, they got my Sister a new TV last year.

Other Grandparents are getting me a game I think, Fable 2 probably, they tend to chuck in a voucher as well.

Parents are either helping to get to iPod or just giving me money and a couple of DVDs or something, some T Shirts as well.

DVDs and games really, probably ask for TDK as I haven't seen it and I have the urge for some zombie films so Shaun and Dawn of the Dead maybe.

I've got an ex-boyfriend, a sister, parents and my cousin's kid to find something for, so not too bad. I have no money so it'll probably all be handmade - knitted or painted or recycled or glued together.

I want: some wool, a few books, maybe a series or two of Babylon 5 or the Sharpe boxset. I'm not really bothered tbh. There's not a vast amount I want or need, apart from books for uni.

A game or two, plus a new coat since it is getting colder.

The only present I'm buying this year is for my Secret Santa. Well, them and my mum - but it's easy to buy for her, just a couple of CDs and/or DVDs is enough.

Going to be more difficult buying for my SS I think.

If the complete boxset for The Wire wasn't £90 I'd probably ask for that.

Oh, that sounds interesting. I'd love to see what he says about how he handles writing his cliffhangers, as I've always thought that was where his weakest writing was.

Have you got a link to more information on that, Herbi?

I'll be popping into Wittards tommorow for some cool coffee/tea sets (3 for 2) for my assorted relatives.

As for me, plenty of books, with a few DVDs. Oh and Wii Music. 8-) . But y'know, I don't like to phrase it ike I know its what I'm getting- I like suprises.

Oh and Deadwood is great stuff, go for it.
