Cilla Black has died at the age of 72.
The star, who enjoyed a 50-year-career with a string of musical and telly hits, passed away at her home in Marbella.
A spokesman for Spanish cops confirmed her death, saying: “We are still awaiting autopsy results but everything at this stage is pointing towards her death being the result of natural causes.”
Police sources said they thought the death had occurred overnight and they believed Cilla, who suffered from hearing problems and arthritis, had jetted to Spain a few days ago with one of her three sons.
Showbiz legend Cilla shot to fame in the sixties after bagging a number one with “Anyone Who Had A Heart”.
The song, which sold nearly a million records, was the biggest selling single by a female artist in the 1960s.
She followed up the smash hit with eleven top tens in the sixties and seventies - including “You’re My World”, “Something Tells Me” and “Step Inside Love”.
As well as her phenomenally successful music career, Cilla - who was close pals with The Beatles and Cliff Richard - also enjoyed a string of telly hits after making her screen debut in 1968 with variety show “Cilla”.
She was also known to a younger generation for hosting Blind Date from 1985 until 2005 and for catchphrases on the programme including “What’s your name and where do you come from?”.
The star, who was made an OBE in 1997, was also awarded a Bafta ‘Special Award’ in honour of her contribution to entertainment in 2014.
Born as Priscilla Maria Veronica White in Liverpool in May 1943, Cilla first found fame after working as a cloakroom attendant in the famed Merseyside Cavern Club.
