I'm coming to a close in my opening game, feel like I've got a handle on a lot of the new concepts so...what about a big GRcade MP game of Civ 6?

Has anyone found Oil to be an incredibly rare resource? I think I prefer the resource system in this over V but thought it was a bit odd there was virtually none on the entire map.

What's the Earth map like, and can you do real world civ distribution on it?

I got about 40 or 50 turns in on Thursday night and spent it getting utterly strawberry floated by barbarians. From about turn 6, there were no less than 3 units within 2 tiles of my city at any one time. All my efforts were being poured in to holding them back and I got nothing done.

I think I might need to start over.

The two things I'm stuggling with are housing and great work slots; I never seem to have enough of either. Machiavelli has been knocking around Southern Greece for centuries but with no room for his work, he hasn't bothered to write any, the lazy bastard. I've been looking through the tech and civics trees but I can't work out what I need to build to get more slots. Any ideas?

You need to build a Theatre district and put an Amphitheatre in it, other than that I think there are various Wonders which will hold them.

The great library and the amphitheatre are the only slots I have to hold great works of writing.

I've got the Acropolis with an Amphitheatre in most cities but that only opens one slot whereas each writer can produce two works. There must be other buildings with slots for writers! How many does the Great Library open?

2 slots in the great Library.

Sounds like a pretty gooseberry fool library, to be fair.

Trading seems altogether broken. Offer a leader 250 gold for a luxury, they instead want 12 gold upfront and 4 over 30 turns. :|

Just had a similar start playing as Japan, still 50BC so I'll keep going and see what happens.

Barbarians do seem a lot more aggressive and numerous in this. Starting as Sumeria, I'd set out to get a few military units up early and head out Barbarian stomping for the extra tribal village bonuses they get, but strawberry floating hell did the sheer number of them get a bit tedious. I dread to think how swamped I would be if I hadn't focused on clearing them out as I went along, as I usually didn't in V.

Standard Map, Single Player on Prince as Brazil on epic speed.

1000AD, I'm in the industrial era due to culture haha.

One thing I noticed to make it look less busy, turn off the resource indicators. You don't really need them and they just clutter things up, I assume they are turned on by default.

agreed, I got 31 gold per turn for 1x mercury resource

mind you in othertimes I do get better deals rather than the obligatory 7gpt for 1x luxury that was the standard in Civ V

The game really doesn't want me to get the 'Globalization' civic - every time I do, the game crashes. I'll have to complete a game without unlocking this particular civic, then!

Verify your game files on Steam.

Also in my Epic game as Brazil I hit the Modern Era (due to civics) in 1300.

Interesting, I've been playing a Standard game, got to Industrial era in Tech dead early 1500s, but I was way behind on my Civics.

It's a bit mad but fun when you manage that. I'm still on my first run through (standard map, standard speed, King difficulty) and I hit the Atomic era in c1600 AD as a result of culture! I'm also leading in science so it was fun when Rome, the least advanced civ, decided to send waves of Legions at me only to see them get torn to pieces by the single solitary tank I had.

Ah, Civ.

I'm really far behind on tech. It doesn't help my cities got stuck in a gooseberry fool location. It took me 100 turns to build the bolshoi theatre.

Domination is super easy in the early game.

So here I am playing on King difficulty (epic speed) as Germany, Swatting barbs left & right. Discover Hong Kong and think: "I am having that!"

Start building up an army consisting of 3x warriors 2x slingers and start tech-ing towards Archers
(going to take 20+ turns I manage to kill a barb with on of the slingers and got the sweet "Eureka") Over the next 8 turns I build another Warrior (just to be sure) then I upgrade my slingers to archers...

AND OFF WE GO!!!

But then! Spain appears, and builds decides to found a new city a little too close to mine... hmmm... what if I declared war?

Whats this?! no warmongering penalty?! Ya Dancer!

New plan! lets kill the strawberry float out of Spain!

And so war was declared on Spain on turn 30 and I quickly surround his new city with my warriors. Because it is so early there is no city defences and the city can't attack back. All I do is fire upon it with my archers and then eventually take the city with a scout...

No I am on a roll, lets just go and take Madrid for the heck of it... Same plan... nothing can go wrong.

You guessed it... Nothing went wrong, turn 50 and Spain is out the game.

Now it is back to my original plan Hong Kong!

The great migration takes place as I try to get all my units form the West of the map back to the East...
As I am doing just that France pops up moving a settler into the land that I have claimed!

hmmm... what if I declared war?

Whats this?! no warmongering penalty?! Ya Dancer!

New plan! lets kill the strawberry float out of France!

So I kill her warriors and take her settler and begin the process of marching on Paris... wait... where is Paris?!

I have no strawberry floating Idea :fp:

Several turns later...

This mountain range is massive! oh wait there is a tiny gap over there, through all that jungle...

Several turns later...

AHA! France ya wee bastard!

I quickly surround Paris with my warriors, and...

Because it is so early there is no city defences and the city can't attack back. All I do is fire upon it with my archers and then eventually take the city with a scout...

Tah da!! turn 80 and both Spain and France are out the game...

The continent belongs to me*!!!

* and the Barbarians
