Yeah to put it lightly, it's a strawberry floating mess. Firstly Psylocke must have one of the most messed up history of any marvel character atm given the amount of times shes died/been resurrected/changed her powerset. Then the otherworld is hardly easy reading and the rubbish pastel-esque art doesn't help matters.

Aye this is the main problem I'm having with it.

strawberry floating hell marvel have released the first 7 pages of AvX, so I had a read. Cyclops think he can control the phoenix force by training Hope and that it will lead to the rebirth of mutantkind. WHAT?!?! The irony is they write Magneto saying to Scott that he's starting to sound like him. Marvel have pretty much just turned Cyclops into Magneto now. If that's seriously Cyclops motivation for going to war with the Avengers then strawberry floating hell way to ruin one of the best character of the last few years (shut up mafro). :fp:

Ta, I'll give it a read over lunch. By the way, what's the current X-Men and avengers stories leading into this? I've just been reading older stuff from a few years ago and haven't caught up yet.

House of M- Scarlet Witch depowers mutants.
Messiah Complex- Hope the first new mutant since House of M is born.
Dark Avengers/ Utopia- Formation of Utopia
Second Coming- Hope comes back after being raised in the future.
Avengers The Childerens' Crusade has the Scarlet Witch returning, one issue left but apparently it has some bizarre characterisations.

You've read Schism so you know what happened there.

I actually didn't think the writing nor art was that bad there but I just know I'm going to be annoyed by Cyclops' character assassination in this crossover. Cyclops acting more like Magneto has been going on for a while (he threatened the mayor of San Francisco in the Fear Itself tie-in and sent X-Force to murder their enemies) and the whole point of The Extinction Team is that humanity will be too scared to try anything against Utopia. This is interesting character development but I have a feeling he's going to be made comically evil in AVX to make the Avengers look good.

Well all these ongoings series are going to have tie-ins to the event:

Avengers
New Avengers
Secret Avengers
Uncanny X-Men
Wolverine and the X-Men
Avengers Academy
X-Men: Legacy

But most of those series aren't leading into the event atm, they're doing their own stories and then we switch to AvX mode when the event starts in the main book. Reading the Marvel Point One one shot would be helpful, as it basically set ups all the future events in the marvel universe. Also technically Avengers X-Sanction mini series leads into this in some way, but it's by Jeph Loeb and it's as bad as Ultimates 3/Ultimatum. And Avengers The Childerens' Crusade is also leading into this event aswell with the return of Scarlet Witch.

I'd said all you need to know for the event is who Hope is and her past, the X-Men teams are post-Schism and the current Avenger teams post-Fear Itself.

Yeah but that's only in light of mutants being pushed to the edge of extinction and then Osborn/Bastion/Hellfire Club trying to wipe them out for good. Now he's trying to use someone else as a host for one of the most powerful cosmic forces in the MU all for the betterment of mutantkind by wiping out everything on earth in the hope it leads to the rebirth of mutantkind as the dominant species, that's a step into supervillain territory.

Have you read about the Smallville comics btw?

I didn't read it as Cylcops wanted the phoenix to kill everything else on Earth (admittedly I skimmed the preview as I don't want too many spoilers), just that he wanted Hope to use the phoenix to boost her powers exponentially to restore mutants like she's doing already. The Phoenix has been in action on Earth repeatedly since the Dark Phoneix saga and indeed Jean used it to save everyone right before she most recently died in New X-Men. The idea that the phoenix is going to kill everyone comes from the Avengers who know nothing about mutant business.

I haven't heard anything recent on Smallville comics just a vague notion DC might make some.

Anyone seen Batman: Year One?

Maybe I read it wrong then, I got the impression Cyclops wants Hope to use the power as he said the phoenix force destroys everything, then rebirth follows that.

Well don't know if this is new to you or not then, but they're basically continuing in comic form like what happened with Buffy/Angel. http://uk.comics.ign.com/articles/121/1218317p1.html

I have. Bryan Cranston is a great voice for Gordon, but McKenzie is far too light way as Bruce/Batman. I did enjoy it overall though.

If DC think they can trick me into spending more time with Smallville then... the Stephanie Brown Batgirl team?

Well played. In fact this would surely be even better than Smallville as they wouldn't be limited by budget to having to re-use the same three sets and poor acting won't be a problem.

Exactly. Really can't be bothered with all these events, seems like there's a new one every couple of months. It's getting worse than trying to follow the wrestling.

Quite happy checking out the some non-mainstream stuff and catching up on trades for now. Thanks qupe, Locke and Key's really good, I hadn't realised it was written by Joe Hill.

I'm only excited because a) it's iron man and b) it's the conclusion to the entire invincible iron man story that fraction has been writing for like the last 4 years and c) if they truly do replace tony as iron man, that's massive. That's Bucky becoming Capt massive. All in all leaves me very excited for this story about my favourite marvel character.
