The first issue was good. I think reading it after my now favourite issue of Batman probably didn't help. Especially as AXIS #1's big surprise has been spoilt for months by marvel

Marvel Announces Secret Wars 2015 To Follow Time Runs Out, by Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic

Image

Of all the various prominent and obscure characters in this image by Ross, it's certain absences that are curious. There is no X-Men characters, no mutants even, as well as no members of the Fantastic Four or Namor as well -- all characters whose movie rights are not currently owned by Marvel. The one characters whose movie rights are held outside of Marvel who appears here is Spider-Man -- albiet not the most well known Spider-Man, Peter Parker, but Ultimate Spider-Man, Miles Morales.

Of further note, of the 33 characters depicted, only six are women; three of which are variations of the Wasp. Prominent female superheroes such as Black Widow, She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue and the Invisible Woman are all absent.

Great news! I was worried Hickman would be leaving Marvel after for indie stuff after he finished his Avengers run.

That looks like Reilly Tyne/Darkdevil from MC2 in there as well. What a strange picture.

Last from us -- any juicy hints you want to leave as to what to expect from Marvel going forward the Saturday and Sunday of New York Comic Con? With both "Cup O' Joe" and "Axel-In-Charge" panels on the schedule, it looks to likely be a newsworthy show.

Alonso: We have lots of big announcements. At Saturday's Cup O' Joe Panel, which is an NYCC classic, there's going to be at least one out-of-this-world announcement. Sunday's AIC panel will announce two new ongoing series, and feature panelists James Robinson, Charles Soule, Kieron Gillen, G. Willow Wilson, Gerry Duggan, Nick Spencer, Phil Noto, Ales Kot and a very special mystery guest. And fans won't want to miss Sunday's Women of Marvel panel either where we'll announce another exciting new series featuring a female hero whose Q-rating is off the stratosphere these days, written by a writer that I'm over the moon to be working with.

out of this world announcement = jim starlin cosmic event

female hero whose q-rating is off the stratosphere = gamora

What time are the NYCC Marvel panels and are they streamed/live blogged anywhere?

Panel started right with an announcement: "The Black Vortex," a new cosmic event uniting "The Legendary Star-Lord," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Captain Marvel," "Nova," "All-New -Men" and "Cyclops." It starts with an "Alpha" issue in February 2015.

"It's bringing the Guardians and the X-Men together," Humphries said, informing the crowd that the Black Vortex is an ancient Marvel artifact. "What the Black Vortex can do is unlock the cosmic potential inside anyone."

"Joe, you play the guitar, right?" Humphries asked Qu If Joe met the Black Vortex, he could play like Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and George Harrison all at once." Humphries explained that the effect is similar to Norrin Radd becoming the Silver Surfer or Jean Grey becoming the Dark Phoenix, due to the potential for both "power and destruction." The characters will be tested as to whether or not they will "submit" to the Black Vortex.

"It's a huge event, guys," Marts added. "It's months in the making. We've got two bookends to it, an Alpha and an Omega issue drawn by the great Ed McGuinness. We've got all the X-Men involved, all of the Guardians. We travel to every corner of the galaxy."

Perhaps that's why there's no x-men around this time as they're all (all the popular ones) off world? And maybe this Black Vortex turns them into Inhumans or just something non-mutant?
