Yeah issue 48.

The hardcovers collect 12 issues each, the hardcover oversized omnibus collect 24 issues each.

I think I am going to have to re-read the first load of issues because from what I recall the comic is quite different to the tv series with regards to certain characters. As MM mentioned though some of the stuff that happens in the comic has no chance of being on tv though.

Next Marvel event spoilers:

Marvel Announces Avengers vs. X-Men
Well, Marvel said the reveal for the "It's Coming" teaser would be coming on Wednesday, but it looks like we don't have to wait that long after all.

Marvel announced through USA Today that the teaser refers to their 2012 event series, titled simply, Avengers vs. X-Men. The series will involve the writers that Marvel has deemed their "architects" -- Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker, Brian Michael Bendis and Jonathan Hickman. So what does that teaser have to do with pitting the X-Men against the Avengers?

With the Phoenix rocketing toward Earth looking for a new host -- which USA Today teases might be Hope Summers -- the lines are drawn as the X-Men want to prepare Hope for her new role as Phoenix, while the Avengers want to spare her from that fate. Fraction said of Hope, "Some people treat her as though she's a messiah, some people treat her as though she's a monster, and really she's just like any 17-year-old kid."

"It's one of those legendary ideas: What if the Avengers fought the X-Men? It doesn't get much easier to describe than that," Brubaker added.

The series will be 12-issues and bi-weekly, launching in March with a special #0 prologue issue. The writers will be alternating issues, while the series will be drawn in four-issue arcs by John Romita Jr., Olivier Coipel and Adam Kubert.

"It's interesting to see each guy bringing his best to the table," Aaron told USA Today. "You don't want to be the weak link who lets the team down. Each issue, every guy's trying to throw down the gauntlet and one-up the guy who came before him."

As for pitting two teams of Marvel's most beloved heroes against one another, Marvel's Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said, "You've got two populations whose motivations are simple and understandable and defensible. That's part of the beauty of this. You're seeing a story that evolves out of 'What would you do?'"

So I guess the question is, what side are you on?

Civil War Mark 2.0. Was interested until I saw Romita Jr's name.

One question: If Hope isn't currently the Phoenix, how has been doing things like making Phoenix flames and basically teasing that the Phoenix Force is already part of her? Was this the same for Jean? I can't remember my xmen history.

You would think that an X-Men event would involve the actual writer of Uncanny X-Men, Kieron Gillen, but I don't see his name anywhere there.

The Phoenix Force is pretty fragmented, I think Hope just has a fraction of it at the moment. Jean was possessed by all of it.

 I've been planning on getting the Uncanny X-Force trades for a while actually, it's supposed to be really good.

That's definitely the prelude as Cable is Hope's father so he's presumably trying to take them out before the event but I'm not sure how good it will be given who's writing it.

Yeha, the team behind it isn't exactly spectacular

I really, reallllllly would recommended the Uncanny X-Force stuff; Rick Remender writes a fantastic book and the art work is constantly top notch - Also Deadpool is back on par with his Joe Kelly days, which was a big for me (and Fantomas is easily becoming one of my fav Marvel characters form all this)

Yeah Remender has done amazing things on Uncanny X-Force and Venom. Loved reading those two this year.

Apparently Young Avengers Children Crusade's finale and the fight between the X-Men and Avengers in that is setting the stage for this event, so I'm guessing X-Sanction will too.

Am I the only one that enjoyed Civil War? It's the first big event that really got me into comics so I supposed I'm biased. :shifty:

It was cool until Iron Man basically turned into a moustache-twirling villain for no apparent reason.

Looking forward to master tactician Cyclops overcoming the Avengers before kissing and making up, or something equally ridiculous

DC style universe reboot? Cyclops' new extinction team could easily take down the Avengers though.

I have no idea where the Avengers motivations are coming from here.

It seems to be conflict for the sake of "shocking" conflict. Much like Civil War

Thing is though which Avengers is it? Because from that pic you've got elements from all 3 teams but not all the members (which highlights why 3 teams is stupid). Where's Moon Knight? Where's Thor(he's due back pretty soon judging by his own books cover in like 2 issues)? Where's Luke Cage? Where's Dr.Strange? Where's Mockingbird (she is extremely powerful now). And is it just Cyclops' team? Where's Hope? Where's the New X-Men? Where's X-Force? Where's Wolverine's team? Whose side is Beast on? QUESTIONS!!!

But yeah Cyclops' "extinction" team should kick the Avengers arse. Magento alone could take out half of them and Colossus's new powers should deal with the rest.

Hexx, it looks like the end of Children's Crusade will play a big part. Basically Scarlet Witch is back, Wolverine and Avengers want to kill to stop M-Day mark 2. X-Men want to save her. Same is gona happen with Hope.

IGN have come along to answer my many questions

http://uk.comics.ign.com/articles/121/1214094p1.html

Highlights:

1. Her presence is what causes the fallout between the Avengers and X-Men; Cyclops and his teammates want to safeguard Hope, while Captain America and the Avengers want to use her to safeguard the planet from the Phoenix. That's the initial thrust of Avengers vs. X-Men.

Which could link to

2. Early into his run of Avengers Vol. 4, Brian Michael Bendis whisked several characters into a dystopian future. An elderly Iron Man revealed to his younger counterpart an extensive timeline of world disasters. The timeline included many events that have already unfolded (Siege, Chaos War), some that had yet to unfold at the time (Fear Itself, The Galactus Seed), and many that may or may not occur in the future.

The timeline culminates with an event called "The Ultron War" and the resulting conflict between Kang and Ultron that created this dystopian future. It's difficult to tell right now if this timeline offers any clues to Avengers vs. X-Men, but it is clear that even that big event is only one part of the equation in 2012. Bendis further teased The Ultron War in Avengers #12.1 this year, with the promise that the story would begin in force in 2012. That fact was reiterated when Marvel announced that their Free Comic Book Day release for 2012 will be a reprint of Avengers #12.1.

The Ultron War will be another of Marvel's big storylines in 2012. Will it play into Avengers vs. X-Men? We've seen Marvel's writers tease an upcoming conflict in several books that could involve either one of these stories. Most notably, the image of robotic tripods has cropped up in several books. They appeared in the first arc of Avengers Vol. 4 as the traditional Martian tripods from War of the Worlds and the Killraven comics. They appeared in Tony Stark's dream world in the "Stark Disassembled" arc of Invincible Iron Man. They appeared in Steve Rogers' vision of the future in Captain America: Reborn. Why does this threat keep reappearing in separate books and from separate writers (all of whom are contributing to Avengers vs. X-Men)?

These two events may or may not have any direct ties. But one thing we find interesting about both is that they take place in 2012. 2012 is the final year on the Mayan Long Count calendar, a fact that has famously invited all sorts of doomsday prophecies and conspiracy theories.

However, the Mayan stance about 2012 is not so much about death and destruction but change. Death and rebirth follow a perpetual cycle, an idea that has also been explored in recent Thor storylines. This applies nicely to the idea of the Phoenix Force. The end of the world is already a possibility, so could Avengers vs. X-Men or another event deal with the 2012 prophecies?

So could the Avengers want Hope to take control of the Phoenix Force to possibly stop Ultron? Maybe the way of avoiding this Ultron War that's been hinted at for ages now is a DC-esque reboot in 2012. Marvel have been building this up for a while..

I would guess that it's the main Avengers team instead of New- Wolverine's there because he's a mutant and Spider-Man is there to increase sales figures. No chance at all Beast is on the same side as Cyclops.

Bendis to Leave the Avengers
What started eight (I know, right?) years ago is set to come to an end in 2012. Brian Michael Bendis, longtime architect of Marvel's Avengers line, revealed in an interview with CBR that he'd be wrapping up his many plot threads by the end of the year and moving onto other projects.

"I'm going to wrap up Avengers and New Avengers. At the same time the first storyline of Avengers Assemble will be done," Bendis said. "It's a good time to move on to other things. Before I go, though, I'm ending things big. I'm in countdown mode. You know when you're watching a show like 'Breaking Bad,' and every episode feels like the second to last episode? That's where I'm at. I've been on the Avengers longer than anybody in the history of the book. When you take everything into account, I've written over 200 issues. I'm very, very proud of that, and what we have coming up this summer gives me the opportunity to go out on a high note. I know enough about showbiz to know that's a great time to go."

The writer also discussed his plans for Norman Osborn and H.A.M.M.E.R., Storm's role on the team, and much more in the interview, so head on over to CBR to check it out. In addition to this bombshell, Marvel also announced their 2012 event series, Avengers vs. X-Men.

Image
Finally. Avengers has been stale as strawberry float the last couple of years because of him. Zero new ideas, more and more "teams". Give it to Gillen and let the good times roll.
