Having read a fair few, ahem....8, of the of the New 52 issue 1's, who is this person in the Red cloak that seems to appear in each comic in a panel?

She's apparently going to feature in Justice League at some point. She appeared in Flashpoint and was the cause of the new universe.

Is the Ultimate Collection Vol.1 worth getting for a noob? Guessing so as you are asking where to go after Vol.3

Most definitely. Ultimate Spider-Man was designed to be completely accessible to new readers and Ultimate Collection 1 contains the very first two volumes of Ultimate Spider-Man. I convinced Cosmo to buy it and he loved it, bought the next two Ultimate Collections not long after.

Cheers mate. Think I might treat myself :D

In repsonse to Mori and the Red Cloaked woman

So in theory she could be an escape clause for resetting this universe?

In theory but because it's been so successful that won't happen. When she creates the universe in Flashpoint she says some big evil is on the way so she's probably involved in the first big event.

Johns is writing Aquaman now so I'd put money on him being the centrepoint of the next big event.

I read Identity Crisis during the week. Even though it was an event that didn't threaten to destroy the universe/multiverse it still managed to be more affecting than the likes of Final Crisis or Blackest Night. Does Meltzer do any work still for DC or is he another they have lost?

Seems not everything wolverine related is untouchable at marvel, now Daken: Dark Wolverine has joined X-23 and has been cancelled. Shame, I much preferred what I read of the new run to Wolverine new numbering.

Apparently Generation Hope, Avengers Academy, Thunderbolts, and X-Factor all have lower sales than X-23 (which has been the highest selling cancellation so far) but of course they'll all probably stay purely because of their links to the Avengers and X-Men cash cows.

Apparently the reason AA wasn't cancelled was because Laurie is joing them - so combining two and keeping one of the title names

Whilst many people didn't like it, I really enjoyed and really like the Daken character

I've been buying Thunderbolts comics since issue 3 and have every single issue of X-Factor to date - I'd really hate to see them drop (especially as I boycotted Marvel last time they cancelled X-Factor)

Well guess who else marvel are bringing back from the "dead"

Johnny Storm!

In the pages of Marvel's Fantastic Four #600, Johnny Storm -- the Human Torch -- gets reignited. That's right, after only ten months of death (and probably despair), Human Torch is back in action. Though the entire story of his return isn't told in #600 alone, the issue does serve as the starting point for the forthcoming explanation.

The Associated Press got the scoop in a discussion with Marvel Senior Editor Tom Brevoort. The editor alleviated any concern for fans that think writer Jonathan Hickman might be using a cheap back door (trapped in an alternate dimension, body switch, etc.) to bring Johnny back to life, saying, "Yes, he did die. He died a couple of times." Brevoort told AP that readers wouldn't "feel cheated."

"'FF' will also continue, and Jon will be writing both of them. They will both function as sister titles," Brevoort continued. "One focusing on the core four and the other focusing on the Future Foundation and the broader base of characters that we have assembled."

Human Torch died back in January, and in the wake of his death Marvel ended the Fantastic Four series, relaunching it as FF, adding Spider-Man and a wealth of other characters to the mix. It looks like Johnny's story will be continuing throughout the pages of both FF and Fantastic Four for the time being.

To be fair, we didn't actually see his dead body. But still.

I am a clueless idiot when it comes to comics, graphics novels or what have you, but I am looking at getting one for a Christmas present.

Are the Buffy Season 8 comics a good buy for someone who is a massive fan of the series?

EDIT - I may also get a Batman one for another friend, though he already has The Dark Knight Returns and... one... other... which I bought him but can't remember. Any tips?

EDIT THE SECOND - Think it might have been The Killing Joke and/or The Long Halloween.

Regarding Batman- my chief recommendation for a recent story is Batman - The Black Mirror. It's not out until 16 Dec 2011 but it's great. Also Batman: Year One is pretty cheap on Amazon at the moment.

Anung wrote:Anyone read that new Batman Beyond series?

I'm deffo interested.

The most recent one was a bit meh, in an ideal world it would be written by Paul Dini and drawn by Dustin Nguyen. Nguyen is doing the Justice League Beyond which is forthcoming however:

Did you read Gates of Gotham? Not quite as good as Black Mirror but Snyder co-plotted it with the current writer of Nightwing and it has tangential relevance to Snyder's current Batman series.

Regarding my earlier question about getting rid of comics its a right old hodge podge of various titles and I haven't got a full list of what I am dumping so far. I'll get a full list together during the week but I know theres a few of the last runs of both Superman and Wonderwoman although I'm thinking of burning that run of Superman (how good a salesman am I?) Grifter 1&2, Firestorm 1&2, Catwoman 1-3, Red Hood 1-3 and JLI 1-3 from the new 52 stuff.
