Marvel Comics FULL AUGUST 2014 SOLICITATIONS

The moon knight solicitation :(

MOON KNIGHT #6
Warren Ellis (W)
Declan Shalvey & JORDIE BELLAIRE (A/C)
• A threat from the first issue is back to cause problems for Moon Knight!
• This mysterious person is the new BLACK SPECTRE and it doesn’t mean anything good for the protector of night travelers.
Don’t miss the conclusion of Warren Ellis, Declan Shalvey and Jordie Bellaire.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

Surely if Ellis is off the book already, then they would have announced the new team like they did with Hulk last night? Or is it meant to say "don't miss the conclusion of the first arc" ??

Well unless Uncanny Avengers solicitation is meant to purposefully deceive, it looks like Scarlet Witch and Rogue but not Wonder Man are back in issue 23.

Noto still on art on Black Widow, nice.

FANTASTIC FOUR BY JONATHAN HICKMAN OMNIBUS VOL. 2 HC :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass:

WINTER SOLDIER BY ED BRUBAKER: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION TPB :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass: :datass:

The "don't miss" certainly reads like they've left something off the end but it can't be "first arc" because the book hasn't actually had one yet

I love how they put stuff like this " The critically-acclaimed and captivating story of Elektra’s search for redemption reaches a bloody climax." on books that have had one issue so far

Really hope Moon Knight isn't done already. Never cared about the character at all but Ellis is doing really good work on that book. Could be another short run a-la his Secret Avengers run (still love the Black Widow one shot in that run).

MK has sold well though hasn't it?

Really enjoyed Forever Evil #7 and JL #30. Just a shame it took until #6 for Forever Evil to get good, the only good memorable thing before that was kryptonite snorting ultraman.

Johns' Luthor is as good as his Wonder Woman is bad. Loved the trolling in JL #30.

It's a shame a man so talented at making gooseberry fool up often fails to create good fiction

I'm always impressed by Millar's attempts to break new grounds in hackery.

My LCS tweeted what they think the best covers of the week are on Wednesday's and they've deleted the tweet now but yesterday they tweeted a pic of Millar's MPH saying along the lines of "a great first issue from Grant Morrison's MPH"

Don't know whether they meant it or not, I'll ask on Saturday, but made me laugh. Millar follows them on twitter :dread: :dread:

Forever Evil 7 was brilliant.
As finales to event series go I can't think of many that do a better job of wrapping the story up in a satisfying way and also setting the stage for that universe going forward.

5/5.

So Elli's run is over on Moon Knight then:
From Newsarama -
"This (Gillen leaving Iron Man) would be the third departure of a writer from a high profile book at Marvel this week, as we've learned that Mark Waid was stepping down from Hulk and Warren Ellis' run on Moon Knight is to end in August".

Nope, but it's a shame as that title will die a death when he leaves and any forward movement for the character will be lost. I'm somewhat surprised that Ellis isn't expected to commit to at least 12 issues at Marvel. Two trades is marketable, one trade is forgettable.

If it's not going to be a limited series then I'm not sure why he bothers writing for Marvel at all.

I think it's because a lot of people won't buy limited series if advertised as that. Ongoings always out sell minis as they "count" in people's ideas on continuity.

That's funny, because I think I often prefer a miniseries (e.g. Knight and Squire) because I appreciate that the authors will know in advance how much comic they have to work with and plan a story arc that's appropriate. One of my favourite recent ongoings was Venom, which ended very abruptly just as the creators were developing a brand new character and had placed venom in a new location.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
