The Red Alert 3 Beta has opened up to anyone with a Free Fileplanet account. If you do not have an account, you can create one now and qualify (it doesn't even validate your email its that quick). They say they have a limited number of keys, and that it is a first-come first-serve basis, so hurry if you are interested in joining.

I hate Fileplanet.

Some advice, my fellow GRcadets. When your place in the queue is over and you have downloaded and installed the game (745MB), you will be prompted to download the patch for version 1.03 (822MB). To save yourself time, and the awkwardness of downloading the patch via EA's in-game system, I suggest you use one of these mirrors and download the patch while you wait:

When I played it last it was suffering from really bad lag issues, is this still a problem?

Eh? The patch is bigger than the client. Cheers for the heads up.

And I'm picking Allies.

Playing the game, for a month now at least,
Lag has been rare, it runs like a beast,
Eight meg speed, is my speed so fair,
The lag you do see, I must say it's rare.

Though there has been some disconnection issues today (due to the influx of new players probably), I've played a good number of games and only had lag on one or two.

Soviet War Machine, here. The Terror Drones (now amphibious) are such a fantastic pain-in-the-prose to everyone else. I send them to the miners and watch my enemies economy collapse.

Ugh! I hate Terror Drones. Impossible to kill once they get inside one of your units. Have to sacrifice said unit and try and kill the Drone on exit.

Probably not a good time to tell you that one of the Soviet superpowers is called "Terror Drone Suprise" then?

Downloading now. I'm a little apprehensive about this one, they look like toy tanks. But hopefully I will be proven be wrong and it will be another excellent C&C. x

It plays like a dream, amazingly better than the last 4 games EA have bludgened with the series.

Kane's Wrath, Tiberium Wars, Zero Hour and Generals.
