That demo was DreamOn that came with the console, also included TrickStyle and Monaco GP which were also available on PlayStation/PC. The exclusive first party games were only available in video form.

The random Japanese Dreamcast pod that they had in our Odeon with Sonic Adventure and Sega Rally 2 did a much better job of selling it.

I still feel sad for not buying a Dreamcast. I so wanted one but chose not too, I remember standing in Dixon’s for ages trying to decide whether to buy one or not when the price plummeted when they decided to discontinue it. It wasn’t the PS2 that put me off as I was a late purchaser of that. I had a psone and n64 so decided to wait for the GameCube.

Crazy that PS4 is about to outsell PS3 with no signs of slowing down

I honestly saw more people playing and interested in Rosco McQueen on a demo pod in Argos a few years prior than I ever did a Dreamcast pod.

Yeah I remember Ready 2 Rumble being very heavily promoted at the time, making magazine covers and such. Certainly not an especially well remembered game now

I can remember playing Ready 2 Rumble on a demo pod in PC World. I absolutely loved it!

And then I bought the full game and was bored of it within a few hours.

Moral of the story: Don't buy games, they will only disappoint you.

I do, too, STAR. I wanted to get one but I was still into the PS1 and, at the time, I didn't have the money to splash out on another system.

Picking up on the demo pods that a few folk have mentioned, there did seem to be a lot of DC ones about. I remember seeing them in most Dixons stores, GAME and Blockbuster. I recall seiing Metropolis Street Racer, Ready 2 Rumble and Crazy Taxi and the games always appeared to be so bold and vibrant. The console itself looked slick, too (albeit white plastic is doomed to age etc). Looking back, I would have liked to have jumped aboard.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Marvel vs Capcom 2 made the DC extra special for me. Magical times

I’ve owned all of the consoles on the list bar one (PS Vita). If I had to choose an absolute favourite, based on both hardware and software I’d have to go with the Wii, since it also used GameCube software and peripherals right off the bat. Nintendo really deserved that success.

EDGE referred to the Dreamcast as "a snack between PlayStations" in their launch review and, while you missed out on gems like Shenmue, Jet Set Radio, Powerstone and Skies of Arcadia, they were probably right .

Remember when IGN put this article out...

http://m.uk.ign.com/articles/2012/03/15 ... soles-dead

Sony boss Kaz Hirai loves games, but not enough to bring one of Japan's greatest ever corporations to its knees. Whatever form PlayStation 4 takes, he's got to come up with something genuinely new. A better-graphics box at $400? Not going to work.

Bought another Dreamcast beginning of the month. Its in very good nick too. Only thing is it didn't come with a box.

While I mainly play emulated DC games via nullDC, it's nice having the real deal sat next to my PS2 and Gamecube.

Someone call Jawa, he needs to update the chart to recognise another DC sale. We'll get the DC back above the PS2 eventually! :P
