I've never played on an actual NES, SNES, N64 or Gamecube, but have since played many of their best games using either the Wii's Virtual Console or Backwards Compatibility. Never played an original Xbox either, but played a lot of the games on 360 through BC.

I had a dreamcast and barely played it because they damn thing disappeared/was stolen.

Yeah, I've never seen one of them, either. I would love to see Jeff Minter's version of Tempest running on it!

Was that another attempt at a standard format system like the 3DO? It rings a bell and I'm sure I watched someone review one on YouTube.

Was tech that was supposed to be built in to DVD players to allow them to basically act as games machines as well.

I think about 5 players got released with the chip built in (not sure if any of them got released here), the only game of any note released for the system was Tempest 3000.

How have so many people not played a NES? I wasn't even alive when it launched and I've played one.

I had the unfortunate task of trying to complete the TMNT game when I was like 6 and not knowing how awful that game is.

Only mainstream modern console (NES Forward) I have never played is The Saturn, pretty sure I played a Dreamcast demo stand at least once. The controller was awful.

Actually I lie, Never played a Wii U yet.

Never played a Vita, Neo-Geo, or Wonderswan.

Pre-NES, I've also played on an Amiga, Spectrum, Atari 2600 and Vectrex so I haven't played whatever's not there.

My first experience of the Atari Jaguar was about a week after it launched in Europe. I went into what was the Virgin Megastore store near Tottenham Court road and they said they only sold 4 in about 7 days. I knew it was doomed from the start. The demo pod was showcasing some utter rubbish and the controller felt like a house phone with all the buttons on it.

A lot of my mates at the time thought it was going to be the next big thing because as far as anyone was concerned at the time, a console was only as good as how many 'bits' it had.

I never really liked the NES. It became really popular here in about 1989 and the popularity exploded with Mario III and TMNT. I decided to get a Master System instead and never regretted it, even though the NES was 'the' machine to own, if you believed that the games were really as good as the reviews claimed. I had more than enough on my Master System to keep me going.

I think I've at least played on all the nintendo (bar virtual boy), Sega, Sony and Microsoft ones. I had some rich friends as a kid. I don't think I've seen an Atari anything in the flesh. Definitely had a shot on some home computer thing with a tape deck but I was too young to remember wtf it was.

I was really late to the SNES party, I think it had been out a good year or two until I finally decided I needed more than just my Mega Drive to keep me going. The SNES had much more oomph than the Mega Drive and had some classic games, but the Mega Drive was still the machine to own, it had practically everything.

The N64 in my opinion, is Nintendo's finest console. It didn't have the largest library in the world, but what it lacked in numbers it more than made up for in quality. A staggeringly good machine!

I got within an inch of buying a Jaguar back in 1994. I remember playing on one in Dixons in Newcastle while I was at Uni, I think the demo pod was Cybermorph, and being quite impressed. I'd also just got my student loan for that year as well. In the end I went next door and bought a pair of Converse high tops which on balance were a significantly better purchase.

As a kid I was more into the home computer, my C64 did the job for me (£1.99-£3.99 a game  ) and I didn’t know anybody with a NES. By the time I started console gaming, the Megadrive and SNES were out, there was no desire to go back to an earlier console.

I have played some NES games, but have never played on an actual NES console.

This video makes some points along the same lines: it wasn't that popular here because home computing was more prevalent than in the US and the games were a lot cheaper or, for those on tapes, super-easy to pirate or share.

I bought one for Tempest 3000, only played it a few times, I also bought Merlin Racing which was somehow worse than Diddy Kong Racing if you can believe that :dread:

Bought the system plus those two games for £250, sold all three a year later for £600 :datass:
