Speaking of realistic conspiracy theories...

I'm leaning towards the belief that the NASA and its associated agencies are part of a conspiracy to suppress domestic dissent in the UK and US. Monitoring about 80 percent of all communications seems like a really ineffectual way to detect secretive terror plots, however as means of monitoring ordinary communications of large groups of citizens it would be quite handy.

Say a bunch of students are planning to occupy government building or a trading floor and plan their actions through private email and messaging on phones (none of whom are expert in using encrypted communications like a real terrorist cell would be). Then they arrive there and a bunch of police just happen to be there to stop them. Add to this the development of companies like Apple and MS of remote kill switches for OSs and they could shut down communications between entire social groups online at the flick of a switch and hinder mass organisation through the internet.

I read recently that nineteen out of twenty votes in the US Congress are won by the side with the most money. If that's true then the ones controlling government are the wealthiest fraction of a percent in the country rather than the electorate. For such people, domestic dissent is a far greater threat than foreign terrorist could ever hope to be, so it would make sense for votes to favour policies that could be used to counter such a threat.

There's a conspiracy theory floating around facebook that the MH17 plane that was shot down was actually the missing MH37 plane :fp:

No evidence or sources, obviously, but that doesn't seem to make a difference for these nuts :dread:

Is this the 'it was an inside job' theory. Because that one is hilarious.

Yeah apparently the secret services planted bombs at the base of the tower to make a controlled explosion. Quite a remarkable feat really.

I remember there being a BBC3 program a while back about conspiracy theorists believing that 9/11 was a government plot, and the program was all about indulging their crazy ideas. It was incredible, at every step of the way these everyday morons got to chat with people with practical knowledge of all the things they suspected, and then they still disregarded everything they said.

In particular there was this one dude who was convinced that thermite was used on the support beams of one of the towers, because look at how it collapses in on itself instead of toppling over. So they bring in an engineer with decades of experience working in the field who minutely catalogues how thermite works and how controlled demolitions work, why building collapse in certain ways etc. Brilliant to see this guy, who's clearly an expert in his field, so thoroughly and clearly explain it in a digestible manner. The moron's response afterwards? "Nah I don't believe him mate, still something suspicious about it". :fp:

The ego on display in conspiracy theorists is astonishing. Such thick people thinking they actually have a single clue as to how anything works.

Conspiracy Road Trip is what it was called. I think it was a one-off for the tenth anniversary of 9/11, then the following year there was a miniseries of 3 episodes, on Creationism, UFO's and 7/7 respectively. I'm having a hard time finding a link for the 9/11, there's a weird series of videos with the same title uploaded on Youtube but it's actually the crazy ramblings of a conspiracy theorist. Searching for it though is leading to some fantastic reactions though; in particular there's a series of cross-posts by one of the participants of the show saying how selective editing 'silences' her in the show, and that this is somehow proof of her claims, whereas in all actuality the show producers were probably being polite and trying to spare her from further public ridicule. Case in point, in one of her forum posts she continues to question the expertise of the engineer who explained the fall of the towers, throwing in her own theories because she knows this stuff for reasons? http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?30026-9-11-Conspiracy-Roadtrip-BBC-show-bbc-caught-lying.

Warning, I have just linked to a forum that will make your head hurt if you read too much.

"I still think they may have brain washed him Aaran Mc collum style. “911 was INDEED done with Arabs with box cutters – now look into my eyes and repeat after me.” Anyone with half a brain and who looks at the overwhelming evidence knows 911 was an inside job. Perhaps they twisted his words or took it out of context or perhaps they threatened him.

They are doing everything in their power to hide the facts about 911 because the truth is starting to leak into the main stream. At night they sometimes visit people on the astral and take their souls so that the origional person left is not really there.... but the original person can still retrieve their own soul and delete implants and agreements made without conscious consent with the ones who think they own this place.

One of the things they are trying to do with the gm foods, chemtrails, haarp etc. etc. is make the conditions right so they can take over people's bodies - if we let them. We all need to claim our sovereignty over our bodies, minds, souls and lives."

Was my favourite. Do like a bit of crazy on a Sunday afternoon.

There are a couple of believable ones doing the rounds again:

Jill Dando was aware of the BBC paedo ring and was investigating it. She found out too much and was assassinated to protect high level MPs and celebs.

Dr David Kelly was assassinated because of what he knew about the reasons behind the Iraq war.

The Jill Dando one really does ring true, when you consider everything that's gone on with Savile. The fact Savile used to acquire kids for Ted Heath also seems to have a decent amount of weight behind it.

I always thought the theory that Hitler escaped Berlin before the Soviets got to his bunker was pretty believable. Didn't Stalin himself even believe so, until his own death?

I mean, I don't think he flew to the Moon or went to some secret Nazi base in the South Pole. I think the popular believe is that he lived out his days in Argentina. I don't think it'd be too crazy to believe this could have happened. :shifty:

I remember watching the Conspiracy Roadtrip shows and some of the people did change their minds when confronted with evidence and experts.

The creationist one had the worst people in though, the guy who refused to believe the Earth could be more then 6000 years old and thought the Grand Canyon was formed by one rush of water, despite having it explained to him. :fp:
