I'm going to get some of my own on Sept 4 (I thought I'd get some dailies for special nights out at uni).

But, I was practising getting them in today (with an old monthly pair my mum has), and it's a bloody nightmare! I just can't do it!

Have you got any tips? Also, if you're on the way back from a Uni night out, do you have to take dailies out at night, even if you're a little.....inebriated?

To make this into a proper topic, how about another question; do you avoid contacts in favour of glasses, or do you love everything about those little lenses?

I have them (Monthly disposable, take out at night. Also keep a "dailies" pack if I'm gonna out late and gonna abuse them).

You are 100% meant to take my monthly/dailies out at night (I don't know about yours). I've forgotten a few times...but you should take them out immediately when you wake up and not wear again for a while.

The other point is not to wear them too long during a day anyway (something about how it affect blood vessels growing into your iris more as they iris can't absorb oxygen.

Re:getting the in

It's a NIGHTMARE at first, but you soon get used to it. I can pop in and out in seconds now.

Just practice slowly. If you fail a few times and start to get irradiated - stop. Try again later. Once if "snaps" how to do it it's simple.

It's a knack you just pick up after a while, eventually you just don't have to think about it. I usually balance the lense on the little finger of my right hand, pull down my lower eyelid with the middle finger of my right and pull up the upper eyelid with the index finger of my left hand. Then just pop it in.

I have always (somehow) managed to take out my lenses after a night on the booze. If you build it into your night-time routine you shouldn't have any trouble remembering. Even if I do forget, I'll normally remember by the time I get into bed because my digital clock will be in sharp forcus, rather than all blurry.

Get them in Rich with the following method.

POKE YOURSELF IN THE EYE.

Well, I kept opening my eye at the top and the bottom, and then bloody blinking at the last fudging minute! I thought I had it in later, but found it on the floor, much to my disappointment.

Is it worth the effort?

If I'm putting a lens in my right eye, I'll put the lens on my right index finger, and hold my eyelids open with my left and right middle fingers. The hardest part is getting over the sensation of putting something in your eye. It becomes easy after a while though.

Well, I was thinking about getting 30 dailies, but do you guys think I will end up going for monthlies?

I might miss the vision if I only wear them for special nights out.

I pay about £25 quid for 2 months worth. And buy a set of a months worth of Dailys for...no idea actually I don't use them that often. Mainly nights away when I don't want to lug fluid/cages around,

I've worn lenses for about 15 years, and I think they're great, but...

That's gross. They're not something you should ever share.

I still wear spectacles, but when my sister was my age, she used to use monthlies.

She went back to spectacles after she realised she couldn't afford them.

I've learned from her past mistakes

It takes time. Go to your optician (I'm with Specsavers and they're great - all kinds of special offers on glasses etc when you have contacts with them) and you can book a practice session there (which I'm guessing you're doing on the 4th!)

Basically hold the lens, upside down in the middle, on the tip of your right (if you're right handed) index finger, hold it right up against your eye, tilted slightly and open your eye as wide as you can with your other hand (I use my index finger and thumb), make sure you have a good grip and slowly push it onto your eye. Let go, look around and it should slot right in (I'm sure this paragraph is full of euphemisms.. But meh).

Just take your time. Don't get impatient!! Your eye may go red and if it does, give it a break.

Nah, you should be able to leave 'em in. Depends on how sensitive your eyes are though.

I love my lenses as it's as though I have good vision naturally (I have the monthly ones, which you don't need to wash every night).

However recently they've been causing me problems, with my eyes flaring up after a couple of days.. Not sure what it is, apparently it's just the hot, humid weather working against my eyes and drying them out.

I leave them in. I get my lenses in packages for 3 months, with 3 pairs of lenses. Obviously that leaves one pair a month, which, in theory, I could leave in for the entire month, but I tend to keep them in for two weeks and then give my eyes a day's rest, by wearing my glasses.

Edit - I do wash them when I take 'em out though, obviously. I have the Peroxide wash, which is good as you don't need to rub them yourself, you plonk 'em in and 6 hours later them are ready.
