Developer WayForward
Publisher Konami
Platform Switch, PS4, PS5, XBS, PC
Release "Early 2024" 12 Mar 2024

Konami wrote:Introducing a new entry in the legendary Contra series! Contra: Operation Galuga is a thorough reimagining of the classic run 'n' gun NES/arcade game from the 1980s, featuring timeless gameplay, iconic weapons, modern graphics and sound, new stages, new enemies and bosses, new play mechanics, and intense co-op combat for up to two players in Story Mode or four players in Arcade Mode!

Take control of elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean as they battle the Red Falcon terrorist group, which has turned the once-peaceful Galuga Islands into an all-out warzone where the fate of mankind hangs in the balance.

The true Contra legacy begins now!

Did you remember to check if your jokes are rather dull?

Can't decide if I like the art style or not but I'm thinking it'll look great on the OLED Deck.

I missed that one, I'm assuming he just bought and watched any old rubbish just because it looked good?

When this first got revealed I thought it looked terrible but it looks so much better in the new trailer. I’m interested now

Haha, I think I mentioned it in about five threads in the space of a day, so it seemed like overkill. I was just excited. It doesn't happen often these days.

It has been confirmed that the US and UK/Europe "physical" release for Switch will be a code-in-a-box.

Dang. The download-only future is really ramping up and I'd been hoping to sit this box alongside my Contra Rogue Corps one!

Loads of smaller Switch games are released that way, seems like a proper scam to me.

Yes, unfortunately it is becoming quite a thing on Switch, Cumberdanes. I don't personally see the point in buying a box with a code in it but clearly people must be buying them as they seem to be becoming more frequently released.

I love the look of it but if there is not going to be a real physical (I dont count codes or expensive limited run stuff) then it wont be something I grab until its on a pretty deep discount sale.

I had a lot of fun with the Steam demo of this!

Though admittedly, I'm mixed on the art style and the music was a bit weak unfortunately. Still, it plays like a dream :)

So glad the Probotectors will be playable, just like in Contra 4!

Had a quick go on the Switch demo. Plays good, but the movement seems a bit rigid and not as smooth as it should be. Especially compared to something like Mechstermination Force. It makes some of the platforming a bit tricky. Would def pick this up in a sale, but not for its current £35!

SwitchCorner pretty much nails my thoughts on the Switch demo. Must give it a go on PlayStation.

Gave it a go on PS5 and it's significantly better. I didn't have any complaints. Looks like the Switch version is one to avoid, at least for now.
