Videogame review Youtube channel Cool Ghosts has been around for a while, but a few months ago they released the first episode of a new series and today the second episode released. That's not something I would usually consider worthy of a topic, but I feel this could become something really special.

It feels very much inspired by Consolevania, which should be enough to entice you to watch. Less Scottish, though.

Cool Ghosts is my favourite thing on Youtube and the only thing I support on Patreon. Bloody love it. I just wish they released stuff more frequently. Looking forward to watching episode 2.

Was talking to a mate about this earlier: the review segments are great here. The FFXII piece at the tail end of episode 2 for example is a genuinely great think piece.

The rest is absolutely atrocious though, meaning there's about 15 minutes of content in a 30 minute show. The two of them have zero onscreen charisma and it's borderline embarrassing to see two full-grown men prancing about in wigs and costumes. It's real amateur dramatics level stuff that lacks the charm, wit and self-awareness of consolevania.

Which is a shame.

EDIT: Speaking of which, the boys have started uploading the new series of consolvania to YouTube and the first ep had me belly laughing within 30 seconds.

Weirdly i'm the complete opposite; I much prefer Cool Ghosts/Shut Up and Sit Down to Consolevania. I watched the revival of the latter series and just didn't get what the fuss was about.

I'm with you. Consolevania was decent but I never really got why people raved about it all the time. Though I do also agree with Taf regarding the skits and stuff in this episode. I skipped around 30% of it. That stuff is usually pretty good in their videos (see "Hitman: The Best Game Ever" or the Witcher 3 'review'), but I haven no idea what they were going for this time.

I wish it could just go back to how it was before they kind of stopped making stuff with any sort of regularity. Ghost Truck, the Best Game Ever series and their playthrough diaries are some of the best videos on YouTube.

I agree with that. The best game ever vids were really good, as was most of their video content. It now looks like they're going for the youth market? Maybe?

Which is bizarre.
