I'm curious to see just how different the games are compared to the originals.

Crash 1 doesn't hold up at all.


Crash 2 (which I'm currently playing) is a big step up but the lack of analogue control is really noticeable and sections like the Tiny boss fight are a nightmare. The boss fight isn't hard as such but not being able to see the full set of tiles turns into a game of luck rather than skill. The side scrolling sections are a pure pain to deal with with the long jump being very hit and miss. And there's too many ice levels. Which are bad.


Crash 3 is the most approachable of the games and the only one I could recommend playing now. One thing that is noticeable is how flat the levels are compared to 1&2. I'm guessing part of that is to avoid the camera issues 2 still has where it's very hard to judge how close something is. The level types are much more varied and the whole game has plainly been designed so that most players can still see at least the first ending with the really challenging stuff left for collecting the gems and time trials which is a much more friendly approach. And the controls are analogue. Which is nice.

Some sources confirmed it will be running on 4k with 60FPS.

Looks pretty good in that last video. Crash was one of the earliest PS1 memories for me so does hold a nostalgic place in my heart, even though I don't recall ever playing it all that much. More a game that my sister loved, I was always too busy playing MGS and Tomb Raider.

This can basically applied to all the retro stuff people relentlessly fawn over.

The games were simple enough and controlled well enough to be very playable now.

Hopefully they'll do a CTR port.
