Crash Bandicoot blocks Splatoon 2 from UK chart top spot

Nintendo Switch exclusive Splatoon 2 has had to settle for second place in the UK chart, behind the resurgent Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.

Splatoon 2 sold solidly, with sales up 59 per cent on the launch of Splatoon on Wii U.

But, after four weeks of release and an influx of new stock, Crash claimed its third chart number one.

Splatoon 2's launch was not strong enough to trouble the opening sales of Switch's top bestsellers - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The launch of Splatoon 2 did boost sales of both Mario and Zelda, however - likely a few more folk picked up a Switch this past week and wanted another game alongside Splatoon 2.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Overwatch
Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Final Fantasy 12: Zodiac Age
FIFA 17
Fallout 4

I'd put good money on Activision already greenlighting Crash Team Racing, Crash Bash, possibly The Wrath of Cortex (which was actually perfectly serviceable were it not for the load times), Spyro the Dragon 1-3, and maybe even a brand new Crash Bandicoot.

The PC, Switch and Xbox One releases of N.Sane are still to come too.

Spyro the Dragon is going to require a lot more work though, I would have thought. And I don't remember it being quite as popular. They perfected it with 2 in my view. 3 was more like Spyro and friends, all of whom were forgettable.

Back to the N.Sane Trilogy, they've really buggered up the vehicle handling of the Coco water levels. I went back and played the original and the handling is much more precise on PSone. It's far too twitchy in this new version.

Yeah, I agreed with you as I can remember I can just breezed through the water course quickly with no problem. Now, I find it little difficult to control the jet ski and it feels like erm... slippery when steering it around the waves.

Crash 3 - I only need four more gold relics and one more gem then hopefully I'll get the platinum trophy. It's easiest of all three and once I finished with this, I'll go back to Crash and Crash 2 to complete both 100% if I can.

Top 10 UK Sales Chart: PS4's Crash Bandicoot Trilogy Is Top Yet Again

Crash Bandicoot's N. Sane Trilogy is top of the UK charts for a third successive week and a fifth week in total, according to sales monitor Chart-Track. The company says the remaster trilogy has now achieved "the most weeks at No.1 for a PS4-exclusive title and the most weeks at No.1 for any title so far this year."

The week ending August 5 also sees Grand Theft Auto V rise one place to No.2 after it was revealed recently that the Rockstar open-world game is the UK's best-selling physical title so far this year. Below that, continued price promotions see three Bethesda titles shift up one slot--Fallout 4 is now No.3, Doom No.4, and Dishonored 2 No.5. Splatoon 2, which took second spot for its first two weeks on sale, has now slipped to No.6.

It's not just in the UK that Crash Bandicoot is performing well. Sony revealed last week that the remaster trilogy was the best-selling title on PSN in the US and Europe last month, and publisher Activision stated the game has "surpassed all … expectations by a pretty wide margin."

The company went on to say that Crash's success may pave the way for more classic games to make a comeback. "While there are no new announcements today, I think you can be confident there will be more activity like this in the future with more great IP," said Activision's CEO, Eric Hirshberg. "The other opportunity beyond remasters is to look at some of our classic IP and ask whether or not it can be reborn on a new platform, like what we're doing with Skylanders on mobile. Our IP library is an asset that, when done right, can be very powerful."

You can read the full top 10 sales chart below, courtesy of Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
Grand Theft Auto V
Fallout 4
Doom
Dishonored 2
Splatoon 2
Battlefield 1
Miitopia
FIFA 17
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

Impressive.

Anyway, I've returned to Crash Bandicoot after I completed Crash Bandicoot 3 with Platinum and it's hardest of all three. I need four more clear gems then I can do the time trials, but I doubt if I can do it.

I can see this game having the legs of Grand Theft Auto 5, especially with the Xbox One, PC and maybe even Switch versions still to come.

I remember the PSone games were a regular fixture of the charts back then too, particularly under Platinum.

I think they should remake Crash Team Racing with multiplayer online, time trials league and battle modes too. It would be a serious contender to Mario Kart.

I'm sure Crash Team Racing, Crash Bash and maybe even Wrath of Cortex is in the planning stages already.

Mario has spoiled me over the years since I was a kid. Crash Bandicoot 1 has so many really annoying 1 shot deaths and it's so difficult. strawberry float me I'm struggling.

You need to start with 3 and work backwards.

Crash 1 becomes insanely difficult by the time you reach the 2nd wall.

You're right about work backwards. I started with Crash 1 and onwards then I returned to the first game and it was a lot easier. :o

How did I ever complete Crash 1 as a kid. Going from the factory levels which were easy to High Road 2. God damn this is hard.

I completed that for my cousin yesterday. You can lame it out and jump onto the ropes on either side, then run along. Jumping is precise though.

Yeah I realise you can do that, but I keep falling off.

I see these videos of people running along, I try that and slip off immediately. :dread:
