I'm curious to see just how different the games are compared to the originals.

Crash 1 doesn't hold up at all.

Crash 2 (which I'm currently playing) is a big step up but the lack of analogue control is really noticeable and sections like the Tiny boss fight are a nightmare. The boss fight isn't hard as such but not being able to see the full set of tiles turns into a game of luck rather than skill. The side scrolling sections are a pure pain to deal with with the long jump being very hit and miss. And there's too many ice levels. Which are bad.

Crash 3 is the most approachable of the games and the only one I could recommend playing now. One thing that is noticeable is how flat the levels are compared to 1&2. I'm guessing part of that is to avoid the camera issues 2 still has where it's very hard to judge how close something is. The level types are much more varied and the whole game has plainly been designed so that most players can still see at least the first ending with the really challenging stuff left for collecting the gems and time trials which is a much more friendly approach. And the controls are analogue. Which is nice.

Some sources confirmed it will be running on 4k with 60FPS.

Looks pretty good in that last video. Crash was one of the earliest PS1 memories for me so does hold a nostalgic place in my heart, even though I don't recall ever playing it all that much. More a game that my sister loved, I was always too busy playing MGS and Tomb Raider.

Never got into these games, had the first one and thought it was pants, especially became obsolete when Mario 64 launched.

I still don't get the fuss over them. Mediocre games back then and they haven't aged well at all.

This can basically applied to all the retro stuff people relentlessly fawn over.

The games were simple enough and controlled well enough to be very playable now.

Hopefully they'll do a CTR port.

Having played through original trilogy recently and getting the good ending in each I'd say despite some major frustration particularly in the first two these are still reasonably fun games. The one major issue with them all is the fixed camera, there are levels that required you to double back on yourself to find all the crap and you just couldn't see where you were going, that and the boxes not being saved at checkpoints in CB1 :x

I'm not sure I'd pay for them again unless they were in a sale. I think I'd rather see a tarted up Spyro collection. I own all three and though I've only beaten the first it's an infinitely better game than Crash 1, 2 or 3.

I used to enjoy Crash but not sure I am willing to pay more than £10-£15 for this. I'll buy it in a sale at some point.

Have they altered the save system in 1? Because that was bollocks.

What with Resident Evil and Tomb Raider, they were all about artificially increasing the difficulty because you usually had to go back and replay vast swathes of the game all over again.

Yes I believe they have altered the save system for the first one and add the time trials as well.

Hopefully if it is a success we will see a string of these.

Still not seen anything of Warped! yet - maybe they're saving it for E3. I wonder what levels the demo will include?

I think Sony/Activision have really missed a trick though not packaging this up in something PSone related. I would have liked this to come in the PlayStation 1 box...or that 3 CD case they used for a series of games in 1996 because they ran out of boxes. They teased us with Rise of the Tomb Raider & then never delivered. It just makes sense for these old games.

From the Amazon Q&A page:

Will this play on the Atari 2600?
Answer: Hi Mr Robertson. Yes but only the 1978 models with the wooden veneer finish. Hope that helps!!
By Fallen on 15 March 2017

Yes but only after you've put it in a pre heated oven at gas mark 4 for 35 mins,(don't forget to turn it halfway too) It's a secret though so don't tell anyone!
By Heisenberg on 12 April 2017

I thought this was exclusive to the 7800?

No this is a remake. Only available on PS4
