I can't really offer anything more insightful or in depth on the topic due to the fact I haven't actually played the game in question  (although I do plan to at some point)

It does depend on each game (and yes ultimately it is up to the developers) but there are usually not many good reasons to not make your game accessible.

If you want to watch a French movie then you expect the UK cinema release to make it accessible by adding subtitles so people can follow what is going on. The filmmakers can, if they really want, decide that people should have to learn French before watching it, but if they do that then they shouldn’t expect much of a financial return from non French speaking markets.

Wouldn't disagree with that, I'm sure it's not quite that difficult though

Cuphead does have 2 difficulty levels, hard and extra hard but they're there.

3rd island complete. This is the least enjoyable game I can remember playing for ages. Such a chore to play. Just hope the finale isn't going to be even more difficult than the game has been so far otherwise I won't be seeing the end.

I would probably feel this way about an 'extra hard' platformer too (which is part of the reason I didn't get it).

Is there a particular reason you aren't just stopping and moving on? Just wondering.

I've paid for it so I feel the game owes me an ending. It is a download so has no trade in value so I have to get my money's worth.

Given time is money, aren't you just haemorrhaging more money into the game at this point? You paid £x for an enjoyable experience, and didn't get one, but you've since paid an extra £t in time and still don't have any enjoyment. It's the sunk cost fallacy.

I don't disagree with this view but I don't think there is much left to do so either I'll be able to complete it or it will be too hard and I'll have to give up. It hasn't actually taken that long to get where I am, the game is quite short.

Turns out that you need to beat all of the bosses at the harder level to be able to enter the finale.

*sigh*

Honestly, I would just can it if you aren't enjoying it. Life is too short to be spending time on games you hate.

I'm not ready to give up on this quite yet. The "good" news is that I don't have to do all of the shitty run & gun levels again (as they only have one difficulty level) and I was able to complete 5 of the bosses on the first island (just one left) in about 20 minutes in total.

I think I will just have this as a background game, going back to do a boss now and then and playing something better in-between.

It sounds like you've played enough of it to know that it won't improve. I used to have the same attitude to finishing games, but I'm not so motivated to complete everything I play now. Gaming's an enjoyable hobby, if it ceases to be enjoyable, it's usually because of the game. I couldn't be arsed devoting more time into something that doesn't give me any kind of satisfaction.

I'm kind of forced to take this attitude to the extreme -- I have such limited gaming time that I tend to complete 10/10 games, play maybe halfway through 9/10 games, and play a few hours of 8/10 games. 7/10 and below I just don't have time for. (Where by the numbers I mean 'how much I'm enjoying it' score, not a review score.)

I bet this woman would insist on Cuphead having an easy mode.

It's dependant on what type of gamer you are. Some gamers enjoy games that are hard because beating it means the reward is greater. I'm not one of these gamers but having Cuphead in my games collection means I have that one option every now and then.

I'm one of those gamers - when I get into a game with a serious difficulty curve(or at least, one I have trouble with), it becomes almost attritional after a while. I can't let the game win. I must defeat it.

With that in mind, I'm saving Cuphead till the end of the semester when I can devote a chunk of my nights to the fury. :slol:
