BBC News wrote:UK fantasy author Terry Pratchett dies aged 66 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, his publisher says.

I was deeply saddened to learn that Sir Terry Pratchett has died. The world has lost one of its brightest, sharpest minds.

In over 70 books, Terry enriched the planet like few before him. As all who read him know, Discworld was his vehicle to satirise this world: he did so brilliantly, with great skill, enormous humour and constant invention.

Terry faced his Alzheimer's disease (an "embuggerance", as he called it) publicly and bravely. Over the last few years, it was his writing that sustained him. His legacy will endure for decades to come.

My sympathies go out to Terry's wife Lyn, their daughter Rhianna, to his close friend Rob Wilkins, and to all closest to him."

I've read a few of his books, played all 3 games and enjoyed the movies Sky1 put out a couple years ago. I recall watching a VHS cartoon too which I rented from the library in the late 90s, which was actually really rather funny.

To get Alzheimers is a terrible thing in itself. For someone who had such a great flair for writing and storytelling to be diagnosed with it is criminal. And 66 is no age to go at nowadays. RIP.

A great and hilarious author.

How sad :(

His books were superb. Really, really funny.

Also enjoyed The Long Earth novel he cowrote. Need to read the sequel.

:( Didn't realise how advanced it was. I swear I saw him recently in good spirits.

Don't know how much involvement he had with the Discworld games but that was some fun times in my childhood there.

RIP.

strawberry float man, I knew it was coming but still.

I've only relatively recently gotten into his work - I just totally missed them as a kid, and now have them as audiobooks to listen to with the gf before we go to sleep. Motored through most of them over the last year or so; not a huge fan of Rincewind but absolutely love the Vimes/CityWatch and the Witches series.

I think I served him in Waitrose once many moons ago. But anyway, I hope it is in acceptable taste to post this and say:

GOODBYE MR. PRATCHETT

SQUEEK.

I haven't read a new one in a long time. I think Hogfather or Jingo is the newest one I've read and that was when they came out. I did re-read a lot of the earlier ones though a year or two back. For me I think I enjoyed the Witches more than any other.

Shame to see him go so young as well.

absolutely love his books - very sad that we will not get another. and as others have said 66 is not very old but i'm sure he's glad he went before the Alzheimer's took his mind away from him.

Terribly sad news. Loved Pratchett's early Discworld novels when I was a teen.

RIP, really saddened by this 66 is far too young, I was actually only looking at when his next book was due out earlier this week :(
