The old school levels are a lot of fun. Controls feel right finally after those Sonic 4 monstrosities and I love the music. However, the modern day Sonic evels are total dogshit. Horrible controls, horrible camera, horrible music, horrible everything. And yet they're still better than any previous 3D Sonics that I've played. The idea behind the dual levels is great but strawberry float, I wish you could play through the whole game as one Sonic and ignore the other gooseberry fool one.

Why the strawberry float won't they just make a regular sidescrolling platformer in the style found in this? (with old silent Sonic of course) It would probably be a really good game.

You'd think they'd get the memo that they should rip-off Rayman Origins but no one seems to be doing that even though it completely revived that franchise and showed that we are at the point now where 2D titles are no longer considered a turn off like they were during the PS1 era. 2D game design is so easy to plan for compared to 3D and Sonic as a franchise does need an overhaul.

They can't simply copy Rayman. The word I want to use, I can't think of, but to successfully make a Sonic game now is definitely not as simple as you might think. Sonic Generations (the 2D stuff) is actually a really good stab at it. With Sonic as a whole, there's just so much red in the ledger. There hasn't been a definite 'return to form' game since...well, ever.

Not saying straight up rip-off raymjan origins but it's clear as day that 3D isn't working for the franchise and yet it is the one that simply refuses to go back to 2D, mario has done it on home consoles as well and though that franchise had never stagnated it still did a great deal of things for the popularity of the series, surely Sega aren't that naive that they would ignore all that.

I preferred the 3D levels in Generations. Classic Sonic was too heavy.

Same, though I preferred Unleashed (non Werehog) more than Generations.

The 2D Sonic they've tried, in Generations and that awful, terri-bad Sonic 4 Episode Whatever gooseberry fool. In terms of design, in my opinion, the hardware that the classics ran on - the 16 bit and Mega CD shengs - suited the style of game the best, because nowadays with extra grunt it's 'harder, better, faster, stronger' and Sonic devs just see that as 'speed, speed, speed!!!!' but when you look back at classic Sonics, there was a lot of grade A, slower paced platforming in there. The key is balance.

I actually think Unleashed (Wii Sonic levels) Colors and generations were all solid games but all 3 games felt like Sonic team never really get the formula down as solidly as they wanted it, seeing what they did with Sonic Lost World and what they are doing with Sonic Boom implies that they gave up on trying with that style because if Sonic Generations wasn't going to make it work then nothing they would have done after it would have done the job either.

Sonic Boom isn't a Sonic Team game tbf. The U version is by "Big Red Button".

Just gone on the Wikipedia page to check and the composer for Sonic Boom is Richard Jacques, so that's one reason to buy it :!:

Sonic Boom looks turd and that's saying something from me. That being said I'll try it just to give it a chance (maybe I'll end up liking it) but I'm not going to drop lot of money on it.

Anyway enjoying Crackdown loads, just doing achievements (though I might not do collecting stuff because strawberry float searching through map for 800 orbs  ) as well mucking around. Really looking forward to brand new Crackdown. I need a coop buddy though ):

Sonic Colors and Generations are actually my favourite Sonic games. I don't really like the old ones, despite being a Sega kid when I was growing up.

Playing a lot of Theatrhytm Final Fantasy Curtain Call at the moment and, apart from that, I'm in a bit of a 16 bit mood lately playing Super Metroid and Yoshi's Island, neither of which I've ever finished.

Super Metroid is on the Wii U Virtual Console. Having an anlogue stick makes it easier to aim quickly than having just the d-pad and shoulder buttons.

Yoshi's Island is the GBA Super Mario Advance 3 version, so not strictly 16 bit, I guess... On the 3DS VC.

Playin'_____ Fallout 3 (Xbox 360). Re-started the game and it's a reminder about how great this game is. The scope and sandbox nature are astounding; easily my game of the generation. I'm still playing as a 'good' character, though... 'bad' just doesn't seem comfortable.

Dabblin'___ Steamworld Dig (Wii U). Just started and it reminds me of old sixteen-bit games... in a good way. The 2D graphics are really effective and the gameplay seems to be very slick so far.

Y'know, after shitting on the first 6 Modern Sonic levels in Generations, I've quite enjoyed the final 3! Rooftop Run and the Wisp place were really good.

Rooftop run was really good in every game it has appeared in. I've seen people get so good at the wii version of that level that they can play it at a TAS level of perfection, literally, as in their WR is half a second behind the TAS WR.

F1 2014 (PC).

Loving it. Looks great, runs like a very smooth thing from Smoothville maxed out and somehow feels more refined, more comfortable than previous iterations (and I have '10, '12 and '13). Enjoying going through the whole rigmarole of Practice and Qualifying this time around. Good fun. I finally start my first race in Australia tomorrow and after two qualifying sessions (a third still to go) I'm in Pole (and I'm not even racing with all the assists on!). 8-)

Heading back to Starhawk after a 2 year absence. 8-) I have forgotten almost everything about it only that I liked the 2 hours of so I spent with it. :slol: Might start it again altogether.

It has the honour of being my very last PS3 game. I have nothing else left that I'm gonna be getting on the console nor are there any old games that interest me that I have yet to pick up. Sad times. :( This console has served me well.

Have you played everything on Plus, Chalky?

I have recently just bought another PS3 and am pledging to not buy a game all year and got though my Plus backlog. It's ridiculously big.

I've downloaded and played everything that has interested me. Some I've stuck with, others have gotten deleted sharpish, but I usually give everything a fair go. I actually still have Ni No Kuni and Crisis 3 on my machine but I have no interest in either of them, particularly the former. No idea why I bought it, I hate Jrpgs :fp:
