Do you listen to your own music when playing games?

I rarely do but I find that it can sometimes enhance the experience. For example:

Dead Rising - I play The Gonk (from the mall in Dawn of the Dead) on loop and it makes the game so much more fun. Adds a new level of hilarity to all the zombie killing.

Fight Night Round 3 - I played this tonight using the Rocky soundtrack and it was brill. Especially when the action in the fight coincidentally matched the music. I'll definitely be doing it again, it made the game loads better.

The Club - For me, this game is perfect with any kind of music and I rarely play it without selecting "Play All" from the 360 guide.

Apart from those though, I don't really use custom soundtracks.

You?

I wish I knew how to make a custom soundtrack.

I used to occasionally use custom soundtracks but now I don't bother. I'm happy enough listening to the game's soundtrack, but I suppose if it's something awful, such as Burnout Paradise's, then I probably would make the effort to use one.

Driving games : Hell yeah!

FPSs, if I've already done the story and want to get pumped : Hell yeah!

It's the only place custom soundtracks don't intrude on the game.

Most of the time custon soundtracks should be avoided. A good game usually has a soundtrack designed to set the mood of the play in certain events and areas, playing a custom track over it is like watching a movie while playing your favourite songs on the stereo. A total disregard for the creative intension and ultimately a dilusion of the experience.

Couldn't agree more, it's fine for racing games but any other game has the music suited to the happenings in the game, remove the music/sound and you're ruining the experience.

99% of the time I use the game music. On ocassions however I'll listen to my iTunes library, heck I did that this evening with Boom Blox which worked quite well (Especially as some of the game's sound effects come through the Wii remote meaning not all is lost!)

The only time I use the custom soundtrack option on the 360 is to listen to podcasts or my own playlist during Pro Evo. Means I can get through the weeks podcasts while also playing some games on the same system which is handy.

Apart from in Geometry Wars, no. I'm usually quite happy with the selected soundtracks.

I put the original Perfect Dark soundtrack on while playing Perfect Dark Zero multiplayer, and I think I stuck a few Halo themes on during some Halo multiplayer once, but I normally just stick to the normal stuff.

I put some epic war music on while playing Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. I tried the same when playing Halo 3 once, and it just resulted in me getting killed a lot more.

Was that epic music by Hans Zimmer by any chance?

Amongst others. There's just something special about taking down an entire team of terrorists to the Dambusters March.

Metal music during multiplayer FPS = win, strangely. You can't beat mowing down people with guns with Master of Puppets blaring out of the speakers.

Also, I stick on the Dead Rising OST when I'm playing Dead Rising, rather than listen to the ingame music, and I have custom soundtracks made up for most racing games.
