I started Trigger Happy Havoc on Monday! Put about 3 hours into it, a few days out of the prologue.

My feeling thus far is very meh. I pretty much hate every single character and their obvious anime cliches (plus a lot of their designs are ugly). For the record I love Phoenix Wright and 999 so was hoping this would more immediately grab me.

Haven't gotten to anything good happening just yet so I'll sink a few more hours and try to get to a trial at least. Hopefully one of my more hated characters gets offed first.

Logic at higher difficulty gives you more incorrect answers during the trial segments when you have to present evidence. I'd leave that up on high. Minigame difficulty feel free to turn down as they're no fun.

Without spoiling anything, Aaron, I'm of the opinion that they use those anime clichés for a specific reason and the characters really come into their own as the game processes.

If you're really hating it though, probably best to leave it.

This has reminded me I really need to play the sequel.

I'm not hating it at all! I'm just very meh on it at this stage.

I think it needs a bit more time and I'm going to give it that (hopefully we don't get into the classic "it really picks up after 17 hours once you've done the prologue!" visual novel territory )

The highlight so far is the angry biker dude whose voice actor randomly shouts “piece of gooseberry fool”.

It goes on a bit, doesn’t it?

Anyway, just done the first class trial, and I’m properly hooked now.

Also just finished the first trial and am much more positive on it!

Great first case with a satisfying number of turns to unravel. Definitely suffers from the Phoenix Wright problem of you figuring it all out straight away but having to wait for thr game to decide when you're allowed to reveal that, but that's a difficult problem to solve. Main gripe is that they could have made the upside down "L3ON" look a little bit more like numbers, I clocked it said Leon straight away which kind of spoiled the case for me.

Definitely a little warmer on the characters now and I enjoyed the fully voice acted section. Looking forward to see where this goes!

Yeah, it made it a bit obvious, didn't it? Hopefully it was just going easy on us for the first one.

The first case is by far the simplest.

Being forced to perve on the bathing girls, and knowing that ursine strawberry floater will use it against me later.

I've been playing Danganronpa S and some of the interactions have had me laughing, especially Gundhams,
I think I'll be playing this for a while. I know it's not like the other titles whatsoever, but it's pretty decent.

Trials 2 and 3 were pretty gnarly and entertaining. Just finished trial 4, which I sussed very early on. Pushing forward now, with some anxiety about an ally character. Good stuff.

Legit pleased to see new people getting into this :msgreen:

What's Dangan S?

If anyone enjoying this hasn't tried it, I'd like to recommend them the SteinsGate games. They're EVEN less gamey but exude a similar sense of dread as you're going along. The first one also takes a while to get going :lol:

Dangan S is the development plan games that people tended to not bother with till the main game was over.. It's basically a version with every character available from all 3 mains and Ultra Despair Girls. You can also battle up a tower to get coins to unlock more characters. That's basically it really.

Its a bit repetitive as the board stays the same but seeing some of the cutscenes with characters you thought would never interact is pretty funny. Gundhams is hilarious!

Just going into trial 6. Reasonably confident I know what’s going on, but also half expecting to be proven wrong.

I pretty much had it sussed, but still a satisfying ending anyway. And I’m straight into School mode, which isn’t what I was expecting.

I’d be very pleased if they release further games from the series into Game Pass.
