Can it?

I really like video game nation :| Apart from mossy of the presenters :dread:

The only presenters I half-like are Aoife and the short bloke who is one of the regular experts. Dan is up his own arse and John Robertson is just annoying in the extreme ("Hi Def? High Five!" my arse). And as for the dark haired Buck-toothed woman who thinks she's hilarious with every single comment she makes? You're not.

I don't like how an entire episode is dedicated to just 1 game each week. Yesterday I watched Far Cry Primal, before that it was Zelda's remake of something or other (dunno which one as I don't play Zelda's games). Before that it was Street Fighter, Resi Evil. We've had whole episodes sliced and diced to cover all angles, most of which are not required or interesting.

There's enough new content out across all consoles to cover a few each episode. Why drag out 5 mins worth of editorial comment to 20+ mins?

I only watch it as it's the only gaming show on tv that I'm aware of.

Celebs named for Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit TV video game show

Airs 5th September on Dave.

A video game show on the box, eh? Not had one of those in a while. But come 5th September on Dave we will - Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit.

O Brian - who's much taller in real-life let me tell you - will host two rival teams of celebs who will battle against each other in various video games.

We now know those celebs will include include Bob Mortimer, Russell Howard, Rachel Riley, David James, Jason Manford, Dave Gorman, Marcus Brigstocke, Gina Yashere, Ed Byrne, Josie Long and Holly Walsh.

That's in addition to the two team captains Steve McNeil and Sam Pamphilion and, more importantly, gaming expert and Eurogamer alumni (can I use that word there?), Ellie bloody Gibson!

Show kicks off 5th September, as mentioned, and there are six, weekly episodes.

Dara O Briain :dread:

Might have watched if it hadn't been him presenting. Shame that Videogame Nation got canned. It wasn't brilliant, but it wasn't awful. Some of the presenters were annoying, but it filled a void.

This doesn't sound great. Bringing 'celebs' into it means it's almost guaranteed to be gooseberry fool.

Yep, I don't care what some random celeb who most likely doesn't even play games thinks.
Just give us a show where they discus games in the same way they do films is it really that hard.

Yes it is that hard because films are understood and accepted as valuable or worth discussing. This is what happens when people try to introduce games:

Wow it's like a who's who of generic rent-a-channel-4-quiz-show-panelists. Can't wait.

That Jon Snow/Charlie Brooker thing was quite interesting. The main thing I got out of it was that it's not just me who has no idea where the eject button/area is on the PS4 box.

I stand by my assertion.

This sounds like it'll just have the generic comedy circuit regulars and the odd reality tv star, making gooseberry fool jokes about basements dwellers and the size of Lara Croft's boobs.

There will be ZERO insight or critique, and it will make your life more miserable by watching it.

Just watch eSports. It will take decades for traditional media to catch up with the tens of millions of audients they can advertise to. Their loss.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Why would you expect insight and critique? It's not a review show.

Personally I think videogames need as much exposure as they can get, its not a good time to get choosy. It's a major frustration of mine that we can't get more on TV (utterly the commissioners at fault), but also worth noting that much of the British e-sports scene is manufactured by TV companies such as mine. TV understands e-sports, the commisioners don't.

They are already making millions from e-sports. It's just not obvious.

I'm currently binging through Taskmaster (just a TOTW rip off :shifty:) and really enjoying it, so I can see Dave commissioning a half decent show in a way I couldn't see Challenge doing.

I hope they focus on some more indie titles. One thing that the John Snow/Charlie Brooker thing emphasised is just how dull it is to watch someone play a AAA single player title for just a couple of minutes. There's much more scope for enjoyable segments of if you have a comedian playing something like Super Hexagon, Expendabros, or Super Meat Boy.

If I was watching a tv show about films or music, I would expect a level of insight into the production or themes of the films/songs, as well as an idea of whether or not the films/music were any good.

That's just basic TV, isn't it?

Does Never Mind The Buzzcocks critique its music? No it does not.

Its an entertainment show. Its job is to entertain.
