PostRe: Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit - Mondays at 10pm with a review show afterwards
by Monkey Man » Fri Jan 12, 2018 12:21 pm

Third series of Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit TV show begins February

The third series of video game TV show Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit starts 12th February on Dave and runs for 10 episodes over 10 weeks, ending in April. There will be a Best Of episode aired a week earlier, comprising the best bits of the two series so far.

In the third series, Dara O Briain, who's taller than you think, once again hosts a selection of celebrities as they battle through five rounds of video game-based challenges.

Celebs this season include chat show host Jonathan Ross; former model Jodie Kidd, who now owns a pub in West Sussex; former Sky at Night presenter Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock; and Sonia Fowler from yesteryear's EastEnders - Natalie Cassidy. There's a raft of comedians on the bill, too, plus MasterChef's Greg Wallace, who loves a pudding.

Team captains Steve McNeil and Sam Pamphilon, creators of Go 8 Bit, return, as does the show's lovely and brilliant gaming expert Ellie Gibson, who once worked here at Eurogamer - before becoming a stand-up comedian and launching the popular Scummy Mummies podcast.

Ellie does still write a thing or two for us, of course, including a behind-the-scenes look at Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit.

All episodes will be available on demand via UKTVPlay a week before they air on Dave.

I just read that Greg Wallace is on the first show, and that he's really into turn-based strategy games. Which probably means he once played chess on his phone.

I imagine it's because he presented Time Commanders recently and was just really impressed by the technology on display. But yeah, he probably went away afterwards and played Chess on his phone and that was that.

Returns tonight on Dave, another video game show announced by ch4 -

British broadcaster Channel 4 has ordered a time-travelling video game format hosted by comedian Rob Beckett. The network has commissioned Playing For Time, from Greenbird-backed production company Rumpus Media, a four-part series that will see Beckett and celebrity guests including Josh Widdicombe, Rachel Riley, Asim Chaudhry and Scarlett Moffat play a number of video games across the years. The show, which will air this spring, was commissioned by Jonny Rothery, Commissioning Editor for Formats at Channel 4 and will be exec produced by Emily Hudd and Iain Wimbush. It will air in partnership with video game retailer GAME. “Gaming is obviously a hugely popular part of our culture and this series takes a unique and engaging look at how gaming has evolved over the last four decades. We are looking forward to teaming up with Game and a time travelling Rob to make Playing for Time a reality,” said Rothery.

Sounds ruddy awful. Sounds even worse than 8-Bit, as if that was even possible.

Another show, another panel of the same rent-a-gob comedians/z-listers that only ever do the same 2-3 panel shows and nothing else.

Oh good more Scarlett Moffat..... She must suck a mean cock to get on all these shows as she adds nothing of value when she is on a show!

Why can't these shows have people who actually like and actively play games on them? I don't know who any of these z listers are anyway and aside from them pushing some gooseberry fool comedy DVD, there's no value to them being on there. Imagine a tv games show but with people who are good at games, capable of playing them without shouting and rolling on to their back kicking their legs in the air, and are knowledgeable about the games.

But no lets have Miranda heart playing her f'avourite game' of burn out revenge and not understanding how to steer a car, while shouting.

Watched the first season, missed out on the second bar the first of it. This third season feels like it's trying a bit too hard for different content. The Sims as a competitive game? Football Manager?
Ah, just a bit of fun when it comes down to it.

How the hell did they make The Sims competitive for, what I'm assuming was, the 5 minutes they played it?!

I thought it was weird when they made Resident Evil 3 competitive in the first season.
