:o ... . I have pretty much broke free from the lure of amiibo (mainly because, although I like the actual figures, the purchasing hurdles and the - generally - ropey game interaction have frustrated me) but I kinda liked the idea of a Solaire one :shifty: .

Digital Foundry have taken a look at the Switch trailer. Probably no surprises; it appears to run at 1080p/30 in docked mode and 720p/30 in portable mode with slightly upgraded graphics from the 360 version.

I'm really unsure about choosing the Switch or PS4 format for this. I'm veering towards PS4 because I have the other Soulsborne games on that system and I also wonder if the graphics may be a wee bit too dark for me to enjoy on the smaller screen.

If my impressions from TWA are correct, it's far too hard for you jawa so best not buy it at all

Hypes, I fear you may not have ventured into the Bloodborne thread recently - I am totally kicking butt in that game 8-) .

I've almost reached the first boss.

Gonna decide which version to go for after I've tried the beta thing for both PS4 and Switch.

Nintendo Store UK have a Dark Souls Remastered bundle (game plus Solaire of Astoria amiibo plus a metal plate of the game cover). It went on sale this afternoon and immediately sold out.

Nintendo *still* doing their stock japes  .

Anyone expecting this to be a top remaster should learn to pipe their dreams down a bit. This will be a bare bones remaster.

A comparison video of the PS3 version alongside PS4 Pro. It looks pretty neat!

Edit: YouTube comments seem to suggest that it "looks the same". I guess it is more of a remaster than a remake.

I'm not actually 100% sure on this anymore, not that I wouldn't enjoy it but rather but more would I have the time to actually invest in it. I'll definitely still try the free portion they'll be releasing nearer launch to see how much I enjoy it and then decide one way or another.

I'd barely call it a remaster. Its pretty much a port.

Still plenty of time to decide but - if I do get this - I'm edging towards the PS4 version rather than the Switch. I can see why some folk would really like the portable aspect but, for me, i think it's the kinda game I'd prefer to tackle on a bigger screen.

Eesh, they really haven’t put much into this have they.

If anything it’s pushing me to finally pick up Dark Souls III

Sounds like they've added a lot of quality of life improvements from DSIII which is pretty much all I wanted.

I don't get the disappointment really? I mean sure if it was rebuilt with dark souls 3 graphics/engine, that would be amazing. But looking at the new gameplay videos there are some subtle improvements to the lighting and shadows as well as slight higher res textures. Also AA seems better probably as the video above is from 4K PS4 pro. Thing is for consoles this is great as dark souls was previously only for PS3. Now you can play it up to 4k at 60fps if you have a ps4pro for example. For PC players it's not going to be a massive difference, but you can be sure to expect better online connectivity and hopefully no fps drops in places like blighttown. That for me is worth buying again. Also plenty of new players and just the fun of going through it all over again. But that's just my personal two cents.

If my X1X can run blight town at a locked 60fps then this is worth it.

Well it's already confirmed some Chinese company is doing the switch port, and not Bamco. So that's a bad sign to begin with.

Also Vaati just tweeted that the game won't be using the DS3 engine or assets. That pretty means this will be just an up-res port of the PC version. Also explains why PC owners of PTD edition are getting it for half price.

The only thing I was excited about was the idea this was going to be a full on remake and use the DS3 engine and assets. Hype officially deflated.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

If it's a decent port to Switch I'll get it even if it's 'just' a port. It's a great game and it'll be fun to finally play it 'properly' with online features, which didn't work properly for me on PC for whatever reason.

EDIT: Also that GIF is great

 this gooseberry fool reminds me of the original Resident evil 4 port for PC. Sure, you can play it in higher resolutions but they've pretty much removed the aesthetic of the original game in the process by most likely simply omitting finely tuned graphical effects like lighting in favour of global illumination and a bit of ambient occlusion that basically requires no human input, making everything appear flat. Good job.

It's hillarious that user hacks like dsfix and post processing like supersampling still do a better job than an official re release years later.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."
