Looks like another dull, generic ARMA mod complete with Unreal Engine built in assets.

It's not using Unreal Engine, they built the engine in-house, It's also going to be the engine for Arma 4.

Some of the Signs in this game crack me up.

Played this for 4hours last night with mates. It's oddly compelling. I think it's the environments, we get to see some jaw dropping vistas on a regular basis. We set off with 3 of us on a quest to find the northern airfield where all the top loot spawns (and death could come as it's busy).

One of the lads wasn't on last night but he's a seasoned DayZ player so we thought we'd set off without him. We didnt' have much food but we set off anyway and ran into the woods in a direction we thought was WEST, (we used the sun to orientate us). We came across small little towns and villages and streams that let us scrape by then while travelling along a dirt road we heard an ominous sound, like an animal in pain but it was loud. We reached the crest of a hill and in the valley below was a small farm and a field with cows in it, one of the cows was running about like crazy and as we got closer we realized 2 Z's were in pursuit, It was quite the site tbh. At this point one of our mates died from hunger, we didn't realise and he didn't alert us that his food was low and blinking. He had the least loot out of all of us so he respawned and gave us updates on how he was getting on. 2 of us left were very low on food so we decided to kill a cow. Couldn't catch it to kill it with an axe but I took one out with my handgun, it took 6 shots to take it down, then I shot the Z's who heard my gun. Skinned the cow and took the meat, jesus the meat, there was TONS of it. It meant we were set to walk anywhere without needing to loot for hours as we already had 3 full bottles of water on us.

Respawned mate relayed the name of his town to me and I checked on my phone and realised we got lucky and he wasn't to far away. 2 of us stumbled upon Berizino, jesus its MASSIVE, took us 30 mins just to run through the place, it's just VAST, mates town was up the coast so we ran towards each other and met up at a beached ship. We looted that, got some damaged guns and bags and stuff but crucially one of us got a Compass.

We set off west and it gradually got darker, it never went to full night but it was definitley entering twilight, we had so much food we just bypassed any towns and only stopped at castles to go up the to the towers and scope out the land. It started to rain and just looking down around the hills and mountains with a Castle in the distance was great. We heard some crazy sounds in the woods and briefly seen a wild boar chasing some deer. Sounds scary af though.

Made it to the Airfield, brought lads up to the control tower and pointed to where the loot is and then logged off and went to bed as they set off for it. As far as I can tell they where on for another 2 hours so I wonder why....the loot was there, can't see what else they'd have gotten up to but I'll find out tonight. The worst thing about this game is that it's a time sink but outside of that, traversing the landscape with friends with a common goal is pretty special, it has tons of glitches but looking forward to it improving over time.

Glad you're enjoying it though! I do find you have to set your own goals after a while. The problem is when so many people just play it like a deathmatch.

Setting your own goals is fun, it was quite exciting getting ready to set off, knowing it was going to be a long trek. It was good chatting away while walking along, updating folk on loot and if we seen or heard a stream. It was like a digital stand by me.

The glitches can be annoying though, we had 3 guns that we couldn't take full mags out of, and wouldn't load any bullets. Half of the reason we headed to airfield was to get some mags for AK's we had that worked.

DayZ on busy servers is mental. It’s like a social experiment.

Base building and Cars coming to DAYZ Xbox on Thursday:

Basebuilding & Vehicles Update
Alright, let's start with it right off the bat - if nothing goes wrong during internal testing, we'll be releasing a big Game Preview update on Thursday, November 22 - next week. We're announcing this with a little bit of a warning since there are quite a few things that can still break the build, but hopefully, we should be all good and ready to release what's without any doubt the biggest game update we've done on Xbox so far. Along with bringing new things to try, the update should also be addressing some of the very annoying issues that you've been reporting. Let's take a look:

Content & Features Highlight
new vehicle: ADA 4x4 + parts and other necessary items
base building + necessary items to make it work (tools, planks, nails...)
new shotgun + ammo
tents and barrels for making improvised camps and loot stashes
improved nighttime (don't throw away those road flares everyone! You'll need them ;)
lots of other new items configured for spawning in the Central Economy
slightly increased numbers of infected

Image

Bug Fixes & Quality of Life Improvements
fixes for the annoying hit registration bug
some missing controls should be added, as well as some new options (we'd like to add leaning, switching fire mode, weapon zeroing and switching between multiple user actions)
we've gone through the first round of optimizations improving the performance and stability of the inventory (evaluating the performance will be one of the things we will be monitoring)
changes to Central Economy and item spawning quantity in general
lots of smaller animation and sound improvements
general improvements to game stability

Upcoming Inventory & Usability Improvements
One of the things that we'd like to resolve during the Game Preview is the general usability of the game, and the inventory/UI functionality. The DayZ game design team joined forces with our friends and colleagues in the Vigor team and for the past 2 weeks, they have been brainstorming possible new concepts for the DayZ UI and inventory usability. We've done a pretty extensive research in this area and identified a lot of specific things that would be worth taking a look at. This effort should result in a set of specific improvements that we will want to try implementing in order to make DayZ a bit more user friendly.

While it's too early to show any results and the implementation phase is always the hardest one, we're taking this very seriously and will update you whenever we have any concrete results. Your feedback on this will be very important, so get ready to bring it on! :)

DayZ will support mouse & keyboard!
Lastly, at XO, Microsoft announced that mouse & keyboard support is officially coming to Xbox One - and DayZ is one of the games that will take advantage of this new feature! It's good to mention that our intention is to always match players with the same input method, and not mix controller and mouse & keyboard players together. While we don't have a specific day to roll out support for mouse & keyboard input, it's safe to say that we will most likely not be able to do that before we leave Game Preview. Figuring out a good controller experience is the priority for us at the moment, and while it may seem like it's easy to just bring over the PC controls to Xbox, there's actually quite a lot of programming and scripting work that would need to be done in order to support this - and we need our programmers and scripters on other things right now!

With this - let's wrap up today's Development Briefing. Please make sure to jump into the discussion thread on the forums to ask us any questions.

See you all in Chernarus, Survivors!

I think I must be losing it as none of this (except m&k, obviously) is in the PC version? Has the dev ditched PC to concentrate on the consoles?

Base building and cars were added a couple of weeks ago to PC version, it's in it's BETA at mo.

I'm just glad Xbox Game Preview doesn't seem to far behind.

Ah right, it's relatively new then. Been about a month or so since I last fired DayZ up.

Cheers.

So that last update that added cars and stuff was borked, it was night time and rained all the time, they've apparently finally fixed it and added a ton of stuff today and in a very surprising turn of events, the Xbox version has now leap frogged beyond the PC one, for now.

Forums and Twitter seem happy with it now on Xbox, looking forward to playing this over xmas, as I think only PC is getting updated to 1.0 before years end.

There is an hour trial, also, in the trial you start with a pistol and a knife, in the full game you don't.

Feel kinda bad, was in control tower at airport and guy asked if we can meet on bottom floor with guns put away, dude arrives with gun drawn... I asked him 3 times to put gun away and no answer. Shot him in back.

Don’t get me wrong, if I’m in a military base I shoot on sight but what happened was, I was halfway up ATC tower at airport and I heard dudes footsteps, he heard mine and he said over mic “dude what floor are you on?” I said I didn’t know (I didn’t) and he said let’s not shoot each other and we’ll put guns away and meet on bottom floor. I agreed, when got down (I was first) I spotted Zombie right in front, told dude I was gonna shoot it, killed it, put gun away. Dude arrives down stairwell with gun out. He killed a couple of Z’s but in s 30 second gap I asked him to put gun away like we agreed and he didn’t.

Anyway I ran upstairs and he was in a group coz heard 2 sets of footsteps running in. I logged out (which took 15 excruciating seconds) but sstill feel bad. If he put gun away I’d have either struck up a conversation or we’d go our separate ways.
