I can't believe how long it's taken. After watching that trailer I quite fancy getting it installed again and having a few games

They Rebuilt it from scratch a couple of years ago.

I thought that was when they moved it on to Arma III almost right after it became popular. I think most here got the new version and continued on that, and that's when I stopped playing because (for me) it was good enough to buy a second time in such a short space of time

Didn't people massively turn against this game years ago?

The Arma II DayZ mod was great but the standalone game wasn't as good. Development on it was slow as hell and people just moved on to something else. It feels like it's kinda missed the boat now with battle Royale being the big thing.

I think this will do well, as for PUBG, 9m and counting, I expect a big push from MS for xmas to increase numbers, no problems finding a game (unless playing FPP - annoyingly).

They can strawberry float right off with that price, I'll wait for it to go cheap just like PUBG did.

It's a tad bit expensive alright. I'm very surprised it is tbh.

It's had a nightmare of a launch (as expected). It should be ok tonight though as they've spun up an additional 200 servers but I liked what I played. Runs at 60fps on X and I enjoyed the chill out vibes I got jogging about, all the towns seemed looted though and I did get punched unconscious by some dude. Also the amount of people about was crazy, met like 10 folk running about in the woods in the middle of nowhere. As the base game of a preview though it's really good. I'm looking forward to the updates they'll ad going forward.

Mate posted this video on Xbox, he was playing DAYZ closed beta

It's only 30 seconds but it's hilarious (needs sound):

I like how the saving works, when you log off your character and equipment does too and no matter what server you choose you'll spawn back in same spot. Makes a difference to Ark where you can lose everything when you offline cos your character is saved onto that server and is effectively asleep.

So, a friend of mine had played this on PC back in the day and going by him and youtube vid's everyone talks about the airfield in the north. I had a character that was mooching about from small rural town to small rural town and then I found a compass. I then made my way north, again staying away from main roads and gathering water in streams along the way.

Image

After making my way to a castle I noticed smoke in the distance and made my way towards it, it ended up being a crashed Helicopter and it was surrounded by some good loot, I got military fatigues and a utility belt to carry more. I found out after the fact that the crashed helicopters are random on each server so it was quite the lucky break. Heading ever more northwards I came up to a wall with guard towers, venturing through a gap in the crumbling wall I climbed up into one of the towers and I could see an Air Traffic Control tower in the distance.

Image

I made my way to the tower and found an M4, along with some bullets for it (5.56). Then I got a bigger backpack and had some more bullets and guns, I had 2 hand guns, bullets, food, water and looked pretty bad ass.

I noticed a crashed plane at end of the runway so made my way to it. I hadn't met many people during my travels, most folk ran away if seen me and I did the same. I was sat in a hunters tower and got shot at, I even got injured (9/10 its instakill) but managed to heal myself and run into a nearby forest, I didn't have a lot of loot at the time so I wasn't too scared.

Anyway my mate joined my server and we were chatting away then suddenly I died. I presume a sniper took me out, it was a real nightmare but after my respawn I found I enjoyed looting places now that I know what I'm looking for and what I don't really need. I quickly had a handgun and then found a military base near the coast and got another M4. At this point my mate asked if I could see some blocks of flats on top of a hill. I could MILES away but we decided that would be the best place to meet up because they are so dominant and so we did.

Image

We set off to head back to the Military base I was in just before and as we approached we seen a guy walking about looting, we quickly ducked into the woods and made our way towards him, I was absolutley cacking it.

Image

The guy must have logged off because we found no one, even though we shouted on mics and stuff. We found a nearby town and mate quietly executed a Z with his suppressed AK, I seen one running for me and hit it with my M4 VERY LOUDLY bringing several more on top of us. :fp:

Image

We found a town and some much needed water and logged off but the game is class. It runs so well and I was surprised how well the MP aspect works, other players don't seem to lag at all, it's all very smooth, the visuals can be stunning at times and the ambient sound effects are top notch, especially in the woods.
