DayZ Standalone -Available on Steam!

Image

Well here it is!

The Zombie Survival Horror game you have all been waiting for has finally hit Alpha.

http://www.dayzgame.com

Early access Alpha now available on the steam store.

This is the first official release of DayZ in non-mod form. And it is going to be awesome! :datass:

"Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle,"

-Bohemia Interactive

So another Year has gone by and I haven't updated this thread.

But BEHOLD!

Hit Zomby game Day Zed has released 0.60 onto its stable servers meaning you get all that sweet updated goodness.

twitter.com/dayzdevteam/status/743138043184418816

There a re a lot of changes to the map and plenty of changes to the loot economy... but the most important change is to the renderer..

dayztv.com wrote:DayZ Dev team wanted to release the 0.60 update at the end of February, they are now polishing it and are still focused on last blockers. The update intent to be the first iteration of new renderer. It will supports DX11, and DX9 won’t work anymore. The future goal is to support DX12.

During internal tests, developers achieved to get 100+ frames-per-seconds on dense scenes, running on mid-range card (GTX970). Dense scene meaning an area like Chernogorsk, Novo, Berezino or areas that are currently low performance. As the new renderer is still massively W.I.P, there is no guarantee for everyone to gain such performances, but it looks quite promising so far. A first video has been released that show the fog and rain effects (early stage).

Might get it. Do they have plenty of servers just now? strawberry float buying it if it's like the early days of the mod.

Does this mean that the mod is being discontinued? Is it worth paying for this if the mod is going to be developed too?

Does it still have erratic zombies and imbeciles running each other over in jeeps?

I got this. So far, so good. Lots of crybabies crying on Steam - as usual. Looks pretty good to me, although since I can't find a daylight server I can barely see anything on the pitch dark maps. Still all installed fine and loaded up without a hitch - tons of live servers pretty well populated already. Hoping some kind souls soon set-up some daylight only servers for cowards like me who are frightened enough playing the game without ever wanting to play in the dark. I won't get a good look at the game until tomorrow, so I really can't say too much at this very early stage. A one-off £20 entry fee seems fine to me, considering this game will be receiving many upgrades/patches as time goes on.

I like the character creation scheme - yay.

Oh yes - full 360 controller support. Impressed.

I snapped this up the moment it appeared on Steam. A couple of hours in and it's already the #1 top seller!

My character's been unconscious for about 15 minutes. :( Don't want to lose my gear so I'm waiting it out, going by what somebody said on the official forums you could be waiting up to 30 minutes. Hope nobody's stolen my bike helmet when I come back around. :(

The early days of the mod were the only time it was good, the connection woes kept the plebs out. Once it got easier to play and the player count rocketed, the game went to gooseberry fool.

Ill only bite on this when its a 5er. This is probably gonna be rougher than the bloody mod for bugs, and full of arseholes.

Early days of DayZ were amazing. Best moment was when Kiezer got injured by either zombies or bandits and fainted at the NW airfield, and I travelled all the way down to the hospital in Elektro for bloodpacks and stuff to save him. Somehow managed to avoid bandits and zombies in that town before heading all the way back up and saving him.

The amount of rescue missions to that airfield :fp: Is this the same map?

Heavily modified version of chern.

The time Stugene was pretending to be injured at the NW airfield.

For a game not built on the Arma3 engine (isn't it still Arma2?) they devs seems to have upped the graphics somewhat. Textures are much better resolution (in fact the graphics options are pretty good for scaling to get a good performance-to-eye candy ratio, although I'm still only really getting up to 30fps with things balanced to 'high') and the world in general looks a lot better and much changed. Houses are almost all explorable (even upstairs in some).

I've spent a little more time in the world this morning in daylight (thank god). Yeah, the basis for a good, solid DayZ experience is all there. The inventory is much better. Zombies themselves are still possessed of the preternatural ability to spot you creeping carefully past half a mile away (FFS) which tends to spoil the fun if sneaking around the world really is your thing (it's mine).

I'm not interested in the online game at all. Hopefully the good folks over at kodabar (google it) will get to work on this game soon and produce a properly balanced PvE version for those of us who much prefer to enjoy our Zombie Apocalypse in peace. They managed to work wonders with the last iteration of DayZ and hopes are high they'll produce something good for the DayZ PvE community off the back of this.

PvE in this sounds boring as strawberry float, to be honest. A big part of the game is the interaction with other players and not knowing whether they'll be hostile or not. Are you just too scared to play online for fear being killed and losing your items or something?

Tempted to buy this :dread:

Just wondering how it'll run on my laptop which I guess is down to how well the game is optimised.. Arkham Origins runs at almost Max settings @ 1080 with shadows and physX set at normal with everything else at DX11 settings..

The specs for this are similar to the mod, and apparently it runs a lot better than that on the same hardware due to some of the stuff being moved from client side to server side.

Yes, in part. Also the fact the online DayZ 'community' is mostly comprised of absolute f*ckwits (present company excepted, of course) I wouldn't give the time of day to, quite honestly. Where some see DayZ as an open world sandbox in which to cock about and generally irritate and prey upon others, I see the basis of a genuinely immersive open world zombie apocalypse sim; one in which the player could potentially enjoy endless adventures all their own moving around the world, avoiding instant death, whilst slowly becoming stronger and better equipped. It's what PvE players crave; the freedom from morons, to be able to face this frightening world on their own terms alone. This is why the kodabar blog has attracted so many followers over the past few years.

Good luck to the online players; I simply want nothing to do with it and thankfully there are more than a few like-minded players who are talented enough to actually do something about it.

Ah...pwetty, pwetty god rays...

And then I was attacked by a zombie, who some kind soul, who I didn't see and never met, shot for me. Amazing. Perhaps not everyone online is a cock, after all. I thanked whoever it was in text chat.

...And then I found a bigger rucksack. Nice.

My guy. He won't last long, of course.
