It's not even the best Marvel film. The best live-action super-hero film is Batman Begins.

Saw this last week. First half was a strawberry floating mess and it was obvious they had just cut a bunch of stuff together. Second half was a bit better but I thought the villain was shite. Jared Leto was pretty rubbish at the Joker, he just came off as irritating and annoying. Thought Deadshot was the best character (that's my Halloween costume sorted for this year) and Harley Quinn was Harley Quinn (I've never had much time for that character)

Didn't think it was as bad as some of the reviews that were savaging it though.

Finally got around to seeing this and....man...it was pretty boring really.
Can agree that Leto's performance as Joker was terrible. From what I hear they cut some of his performance out, and that was definitely the right decision. More of that would've made things even worse, not better. They could've removed the Joker character entirely and it would've made little to no difference to the overall plot really.

I think the Joker was only in the movie to put bums in seats. They probably didn't think the film would do very well without having him in marketing etc.

Apparently WB are going ahead with a Justice League Dark movie, which is bizarre because it will follow a similar story to what Suicide Squad was (a character like Enchantress being a villain)... and I don't think the DCU is lacking movies with a dark tone right now either :fp:

Isn't Justice League Dark going to be an animation now? If so it'd be separate to the live action films.

Guillermo del Toro has been working on the script for years and has turned in a number of drafts. He is too busy to direct however, so he will be producing and WB this week hired Doug Liman to direct (I guess he has now left the Gambit movie he was going to direct for FOX)

As far as I'm aware the animated movie is set in the same continuity as the recent DC animated movies like Justice League War. It's unrelated to the Del Toro project.

Apparently, Del Torro has dropped out of the film due to clashes with Pacific Rim 2. The live action version hasn't been green lit, so it won't be out for at least a few years.

EDIT: They have separate pages on the IMDB for both projects. The live action version doesn't have a release date and is just listed as announced.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5996672/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 (live action)

Suicide Squad has now surpassed the best DCU's movie (Man of Steel) world wide box office takings

This has done more than BvS.

That is shocking. I mean that was a mess but an intriguing one, this is just strawberry floating pitiful and I didn't think the characters would be as much of a draw.

Edit: Wait surely BvS did more than Man of Steel.

Wikipedia says BVS was like 200 million dollars more than MoS. Suicide Squad had a good marketing campaign and a higher female audience turnout.

The amount of girls I know that previously had zero interest in comic book films and went to see this just because Jared Leto is in it was crazy.

I know a lot of men who were in the same boat and went to see it for Margot Robbie as well. :shifty:

If you want to see a film just because of Margot Robbie, surely Wolf of Wall Street is your best bet.

Watched this last night, absolute strawberry floating shite.

The opening bits seemed alright, and then it just went into a series of mini origin stories with no substance (deadshot cares about is daughter.....and?). The joker was gooseberry fool, just some guy talking blankly to people with a 'welcome to the circus of value!' Laugh tagged on the end to make it seem kerayzeeeee. Harley Quinn was the only decent thing about it really.

The 'villain' was some cg woman dancing around some smoke. Wtf :|

I also watched it last night and I didn't find it as bad as everyone is saying. I wouldn't go as far as to say it was "good", but certainly passable. The main problems with it for me was that it was supposed to be a super hero type film and putting to one side that the majority were villains, the suicide squad consisted of a bloke good at firing guns (no super powers), some Australian guy with metal boomerangs (no super powers), a woman with a baseball bat (no super powers), a woman with a sword (sword had some soul collecting properties, but the woman had no super powers), a crocodile/human hybrid (stronger than the norm, so arguably super powered) and the human torch from the Fantastic 4's not so nice brother (the only really powerful member of the team).

These collection of characters then fight real super beings with guns, baseball bats, swords and boomerangs and we are supposed to forget how powerful these enemies are and that anyone else they could defeat simply. There is no real sense of danger and the only team member who dies more or less lets it happen, I was expecting more of a blood bath on the "home team" side, what with the film being called "Suicide squad". The ending was also pretty weak.

The flashbacks that gave the characters some history was probably the best bits, but overall the film felt like a wasted opportunity. Having said all of this I still maintain that overall it was OK and although I would watch a sequel, the team isn't really strong enough to warrant one.

Yes?
