I agree, but I think the problem is that mario kart sells and the rest aren't as accessible, so from a business sense, why shouldn't they stick with what's popular and makes them mad dollar?

Oh, no doubt. The N64 1080, F-Zero and Wave Race all sold decently, around the 1m-3m but I don’t think any of their GameCube entries broke the 1m mark.

I’d love to see Nintendo take the F-Zero GX approach and work with third parties but it doesn’t seem like the appetite even for that is there.

This is what I dislike most about Nintendo, they're really innovative and take risks with new hardware concepts yet when it comes to their 1st party games they continually rely on Mario, Zelda and Pokemon games which they release at a snails pace, there's loads of other Nintendo IPs that could be brought to a new audience yet they just won't take the risk.

They could even license stuff out to external devs, look at how well Metroid Prime turned out when they gave Retro the chance to update the series (the less said about Other M the better).

Yep, I agree. They have definitely played it safe in the past with software, but there does seem to be a shift going on, with new IPs (Splatoon and Arms) and collaborations (Mario x Rabbids). Be interesting to see what Retro are doing if it’s not Donkey Kong and whether they’ve got them making a new IP.

The simple answer to this is Mario Snowboarding, Mario Bike, Mario.... er, Pod Racing?

They did do Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics

I'd like to see some games franchises really going back to their roots, and stop this endless focus at being online all the time and having multiplayer only.

to list but a few:

Delta Force: Blackhawk Down
Ghost Recon ( with out it being over the top Sci-fi)
Rainbow Six (having a well crafted Single player /CoOp)

That reminds of an interview with Charles Martinet where among other things he reads Shakespeare in Mario voices and does a whole “Imma you Papa, Imma choppa you hand off” Star Wars routine.

Speaking of Snowboarding games, how about Xbox title Amped? I really enjoyed that game and would love to see it return

I'd like to add Diddy Kong Racing and Snowboard Kids to the list of racing games that need to come back.

Amped 2 was brilliant, a really great game. 1080 Avalanche and SSX3 formed a sort of superb trilogy of snowboarding games at the time, where 1080 was the best for pure racing, Amped 2 was all about perfecting combos and executing tricks, and SSX was a light- hearted combination of the two where you could pull off ridiculous, insane, unbelievable trick combos or just mess around the mountainside looking for snowflakes. If only there could be something that truly combined the three and brought it all back. Recent SSX reboot on 360 etc gen was fun and satisfying but not a classic like the other three.

I’d kinda like to see From Software take a stab at a Castlevania game.

Loads of the older Star Wars games such as Pod Racer, Rogue Squadron, KOTOR, Jedi Knight, old Battlefront series to names a few. Not played the recent Battlefront games so can't comment on them but I prefer single player games to online multiplayer ones.

I would love a proper new Future Cop L.A.P.D.; a large open world with all of the Blade Runner-esque 2099 Los Angeles to explore, and of course, Precinct Assault.
