So is there actually a time limit to the story missions then? Like I say, I'd just been running around, messing about when a big update appeared on the screen saying something about 4 days left until the air strike. I've done a couple of story missions now and got into the strip club but now I'm feeling like I'm being pushed forward all the time to get stuff done. So is there an overall time limit or can I just do as I please? It was much clearer in the last 2 games.

There is an overall time limit (As in all Dead Rising games) but it's MUCH more generous than the previous 2. At no point did I ever feel like I was rushed, even if I was going around doing side quests or just pissing about.

UPDATE#1: So we have an update coming your way very shortly which we believe will address the crash-on-boot issue and/or other instabilities.

It seems to have affected some users who have purchased or obtained the activation key from non-Valve resellers (those keys are associated to a different package ID than the ones sold directly through Steam).

I'll respond once the update goes live, followed by additional details. Please stay tuned, and thanks for your patience on the matter.

Running like absolute arse for me. Cutscenes are full of tearing, game has jagged edges and a fair bit of tearing. Thought they had some fancy "focus" filter on the camara - it's just bad graphics.

Doesn't help that a) I don't understand enough to adjust settings in a constructive manner and b) to see the effect of settings you have go back to main menu (which is about a 20 seconds loading? :S) and restart (another 20 second loading).

Set it on medium as it actually seems best.

TBH at this point I'm tempted just to chuck it in and go buy DR1 or DR2 to play...(had on 360 previously). Might have to look up port quality first though :huh:

Also your PC specs are pretty much the same as mine, except my i7 (3770k) is running at 4.6ghz (on air), and I have 8GB of ram. I hardly consider these specs 5 years old, unless you have one of the early i7. Anyway, I know this isn't the PC hardware thread but you should seriously consider overclocking that i7.

I might try this game later just to see how it runs.

I did this and set it to "Full" (not sure what that is :P, was 720p) and it seems to solve some of my problems.
Edit- Next cutscene runs at about 10 FPS

Full appears to mean it will render at whatever resolution you pick in the actual resolution settings. So how much it impacts performance depends on what resolution you're using.

I'm definitely running this game at 1920x1080@60Hz with an uncapped framerate (I've created the .ini needed to do this). I'm getting variable fps, but the game is running fine with no stuttering, etc. The graphic settings are primarily decided not by the game but by a combination of Nvidia control panel settings and optimizing and running the game via GeForce Experience (it basically sets everything to the highest settings). I'm definitely not running at 720 (I know the difference - it looks terrible at that resolution).

All-in-all, the game performs a lot better for me than it seems to for many others, often with far more powerful rigs. I don't know how that kind of funky PC magic works.

Incidentally, I'm also able to run Nvidia Shadowplay without any discernable issues. I'm going to make a video later. You'll see the performance is, while not perfect, perfectly playable.

Just check you have the "game quality" set to "Full" or "1080p" then we'll know for sure this isn't the difference.

I've just finished Chapter 1 - am I right in thinking I'm basically a day ahead given how the chapters are laid out? Thinking it might be time to explore etc.

No matter who's fault this running badly on PC's is. This thread is why I hate PC gaming. It was this kinda random crashing stuff that out me off. How can a launch X1 game that performed fine not run on machines twice as powerful?

Are we talking about the same Xbox one one which famously mafro never got to apply its 8GB patch file? The one that has pretty well documented issues where the game just stops outputting audio at some point and the developers have never even addressed it?

It runs better on my PC than it does on your Xbox by all accounts. Still doesn't mean it's not a gooseberry fool port. There's no reason for my machine to dip to 30fps. Watchdogs all over again.

I guess it all really depends on how well optimised the game was for the xbone in the first place, maybe they really did push hard to get the game running the way it did. If that's the case there's no real reason why a PC that on paper is 2x as powerful, without the same degree of low level access to hardware should expect to run a game at twice the resolution and twice the framerate as the xbone version. In simple terms that expecting a 4x improvement. Let's not forget despite what some people tell you the xbone version rarely maintains 30fps in busy areas and that's at 720p native.

Anyway just about to give this a go and will report back on how it runs..

Ok after playing around with it for about 30 mins and messing with settings I can confirm what everyone has been saying. You can have a perfectly playable experience provided you are happy with 30fps, 60fps seems to be a distant dream that's not going to happen, at least in it's current state. For my specs I get framerate jumping between mid 30s to high 40s, at least in the early areas, constant 100% GPU usage. As someone who much prefers a stable 30fps over a constantly fluctuating framerate, I'll echo DF and highly recommend using Nvidias "half refresh rate" driver option in this game, something that can be accessed with NvidiaInspector, and also using 30fps frame limit in Rivatuner statistics, which is part of MSI Afterburner. I'd recommend that over using the 30fps limit in NvidiaInspector as from my experience this tends to increase loading times significantly.

DF recommend this too as the games native 30fps cap has some pretty bad framepacing problems that make the game feel like it's dropping frames all the time when it's not, the combination I mentioned it good for many PC games, and even 60fps games minus the half refresh option, as lots of PC games tend to suffer from frame-pacing problems for whatever reasons.

So anyway, with that combination and everything set to highest settings including "full" for "game quality" that I'm running at 1080p (minus motion blur which made no difference to performance but I don't like it's implementation), the game seems to maintain a perfectly smooth 30fps with perfect frame pacing, at least in the first 30 mins.

My GPU is by no means cutting edge but it appears this is the best any of us can possibly hope for right now.
