Do Valve just have a collection of games that people want sequels to and they just can't be bothered?

L4D and Half Life 3 could surely make loads of money.

Valve don't need money though. They seem quite content being middle men.

Shame really.

So is this actually out tomorrow? The launch seems to be so low key, with so little hype.

Reviews

IGN - 8.1

Dead Rising 4 has the best core gameplay the series has ever seen. Its inventive and humorous ways to put down the dead are something I still haven’t tired of, and its surprisingly interesting plot is more than just a zombie-killing delivery system. Despite the technical blemishes that come with the series, its lack of co-op story mode play, and the fun-yet-unreliable multiplayer, Frank West’s return brings the series some fresh ideas, a ton of bloody mayhem, and a whole lot of cracking wise. Here’s hoping he sticks around for a while.

Gamespot - 7

Dead Rising's zombie-slaughtering formula has started to wear a bit thin after all these years, especially since its combat remains largely routine. The surprisingly well-crafted story, wild new combo weapons, and expansive open world elements, however, turn Dead Rising 4 into an over-the-top piece of popcorn entertainment that captures the series' best elements.

Polygon - 8

DEAD RISING 4 ISN'T ALWAYS SMART, BUT IT'S RARELY BORING

Dead Rising 4 has thousands of zombies to kill, with an omnipresent Christmas theme that’s bizarre, unifying and, strangely, soothing. Right now, as we all wind our way toward the end of a very confusing, often sad and traumatic year, I found myself enjoying the opportunity to get lost in it without having to think about it very much. Dead Rising 4 may not be smart, but I was never bored.

Jimquisition - 8

While there are some disappointments and archaic clunkiness, Dead Rising 4 is a great time that makes smart improvements over Dead Rising 3. The comedic beats are surprisingly well executed, especially early on in the campaign, and while the conclusion may be hugely disappointing to some, I can’t fault the series its boldness.

Those who remain saddened at the series’ removal of key features will likely not find themselves happy about DR4, and the return of Frank will be a poor exchange given the overhaul of not just his voice, but his character. Those looking for an enjoyable zombie-smashing romp, however, will find a choice example in this Christmassy take on the Dead Rising franchise.

It’s put me in the holiday spirit, at any rate.

Gameinformer - 8.75

I’ve been a fan of Dead Rising since the first one, and my enthusiasm has only grown over the years. I enjoyed getting dirty in Dead Rising 4’s madcap sandbox, and I’d expect that people who have kept up with the series will also have a great time wreaking havoc in Willamette. Players who wanted to get into it before but were put off by the time constraints should definitely give it a shot, too. In many ways, this is the game that people who just wanted to be a one-man zombie wrecking crew were probably hoping for all along.

Gamesradar - 4 out of 5

This is a series finding its way back to what made it memorable, and there are going to be some growing pains. Dead Rising 4 takes the first steps in course correction by making the zombie apocalypse fun and silly again, while also giving the series a fresh batch of new ideas.

Destructoid - 7.5

For those of you who have been scared off by Dead Rising in the past, maybe this is your time. No, I'm not happy about a lot of the design changes, but the fact of the matter is Capcom Vancouver has created an amazing world to slice and dice in, even on par with my favorite setting so far -- Fortune City. If you absolutely abhor the idea of changing Dead Rising, I would stay away from 4, but coming in with an open mind will serve you well.

US Gamer - 4 out of 5

Dead Rising 4 continues the idea of mainstream accessibility that started in Dead Rising 3. While the first two games were about watching the timer and making efficient choices, Dead Rising 4 is about killing zombies in silly costumes with cool weapons. If that's what you want, Dead Rising 4 delivers good, gory zombie fun in a Christmas-themed wrapper. If you're looking for something more like the first game, I'd pick up that re-release. If you liked Dead Rising 3, you'll get a kick out of this.

Attack of the Fanboy - 4.5 out of 5

Dead Rising 4 is able to take the best elements of the older and newer games in the series and mash them into a spectacular open-world zombie-slaying experience. The game’s core gameplay is just so engaging and enjoyable that diving into hordes after hordes of zombies to wreak havoc never gets old, and having Frank West back in the action makes it even better. The series is certainly in a much different spot now than it was 10 years ago, but its future has never looked brighter.

There's a few L4D references as well as other zombie games in Dying Light, even has the half bodies with saw blades stuck to wall from Half-Life 2's Ravenholm in it.

It should have been Bread Rising.

My Xbox copy has just come and I'm about to start it, but does anyone know what the Cinematic Mode in the HUD options does?

Apparently the "true" ending is only accessible in the £15 season pass:

Read a load of reviews and it seems the people that got on with DR3 loved this. There is a distinct camp of 2 types in DR fandom, The ones that loved 1/2 and hated 3 and vice versa. I am firmly in the 'loved DR3 and hated 1/2' so I may pick this up for the xmas lols.

Doesn't sound too bad -

I'm not going to spoil the ending, but I was happy with it as it stands. It doesn't cut off at a point and you think "what's going to happen next/", it completes the story. The description of the DLC that's been going around is simply an additional extra to the story - it's not required in my opinion. It's exactly what you'd expect from DLC, extra content, not something I'd consider required content.

Anyone get this? Its great fun, mixed with some sort of super serious story.

No timer gives you plenty of time to explore. Love it
