This. However I did love the feeling it gave you, this game must be played in the dark and if possible you must have headphones in

However first playthrough is the best, when you go through it a second time with all your ammo its just not that great

This. I'm stuck on the one asteroid section at the moment, chuffing irritating. The achievement/trophy for doing it with 50% shields remaining is undoubtedly the hardest thing to do in the entire game.

I only started playing through a second time to find that Peng treasure, but I'm probably going to play it through a third time soon, just for kicks.

I need some decent headphones though...

It is. Played some last night and got creeped out in no time flat.

I use the Turtle Beach wired ones and they are very good. They were pretty costly when I got them, but have come down in price. I'm thinking of getting another pair to play with on the PS3 as well, although you can use the 360 ones to plug direct into the TV and play PS3/watch a Bluray through your headphones.

The Turtle Beach ones look pretty good, bit out of my price-range at the moment though... :(

Damn unemployment.

Just gone back to this. This must be taking me longer than any previous game.

I keep finding that, though I like the atmosphere, I get a bit bored of quests being of the same nature on each level. Does it get some variety later on? (I've just managed to hit 7).

Aye, Alan Wake is much more unnerving than this.

This is no slouch though, but they need to work on bettering AW for the sequel. DS gameplay with the atmosphere from AW.

Tip: Turn your TV brightness WAY up, just for the asteroid section. It helps immensely with a section of the game that is otherwise completely unfair. I think I did the 50% achievement. Either that, or trying to do it traumatised me so much that I gave up and wiped it from memory. It's a real bitch.

Somehow I just knew where Peng treasure was likely to be, so I replayed that level, and there it was.

It relied too much on "monster closet" scares. The scariness was all about the sound design.

If i remember rightly i think the core gameplay and quests remained more or less the exact same throughout the entire game. It was a bit of a one trick pony

That's a shame. I'll try another evel but will probably get bored again then. It'll take until 2012 to finish this at this rate

It really picks up towards the end and offers some variation, but as Brer said...for 95% of the game, it's one trick pony...but don't let that put you off, the ending is great and it nicely sets up the sequel...which will be considerably better and less of a one trick pony.

You tend to not notice it's a one-trick pony as badly if you only do like... a chapter every few days or something. Moderation is key to a better Dead Space experience ;)

It certainly could have done with being a few chapters shorter.

Agreed.

I was finding it a bit of a slog towards the end.

I'm kinding of enjoying it now, having had the break but i can see i'll probably need a rest after a couple of chapers. Would be nice to have something different to the ship and corridors after a while.

The last couple of chapters (ch. 11 & 12) are the only ones that change things up and even then it's just a slight change.

But what a change. (As you've probably guessed...I loved it, but thinking back..it was pretty much more of a same but in a slightly different environment)
