Sequel to Award-Winning Horror Game Delivers Intense, Personal Saga that Sends Chills through Deep Space
Guildford, UK – December 7, 2009 – Visceral Games, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) studio announced today that the award-winning Dead Space™ franchise will continue to frighten gamers with its stunning sequel, Dead Space 2. Isaac Clarke returns for another heart-pounding adventure, taking the fight to the Necromorphs in this thrilling action-horror experience. New tools to gruesomely slice and dismember the Necromorphs complement Isaac's signature plasma cutter, empowering him as he meets new characters, explores epic zero-G environments, and fights against a relentless Necromorph onslaught. Survival isn't the only thing on Isaac's mind in Dead Space 2 – this time, he calls the shots.

A Visceral Games job ad has leaked confirmation of Dead Space 2, revealing that the 360 and PS3 follow-up is currently in pre-production with the original team.

"The previous instalment in the Dead Space franchise received numerous awards for gameplay, visuals, and sound design, and the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up," reads the Linked In ad. Someone's getting told off...

"The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place," it continues.

"taking the fight to the Necromorphs" - Am I the only one thinking "Ah so it'll be like Aliens was to Alien" then?

(p.s. that is not the real subtitle - I just want to see if anyone will believe it is)

Sounds horrendously 'grr, action!'

As long as they don't waste time on a shitty multiplayer or something and focus on a good solid single player experience then I'll come along for the ride again, if the Audio design is anywhere near as good as Dead Space's then it will be an experience worth taking.

I bet the producers are pushing for Co-op or some gooseberry fool though :x

Wasn't there an advert doing the rounds a while ago showing the EA Redwood (as they were then) were looking for experienced multiplayer level designers for a Dead Space sequel.
I reckon there will definitely be co-op in it at the very least.

Did they get IGN to write this press release, or something?

I preferred thinking Issac died at the end of the first game :fp:

O strawberry float, this better not be the same as when Master Chief takes the fight to the covenant....in the strawberry floating Flood level of Halo 3.

I'd be willing to bet there's going to be those 'organic' and 'living' levels like Halo 3 had. Absolutely awful.

Can't wait for it though  Dead Space graphics are awesome. Hopefully they do a better PC port this time.

Several of the original team at Redwood Shores did in fact leave EA soon after Dead Space's release, including the very public face of Glen Schofield the game's Executive Producer (he's at Activision now), so the press release isn't quite telling the whole truth.

That's exactly what I thought when I read the press release for the sequel. Would make more sense to have brought in a new character who stumbles across an escape pod from the Ishimura or something.

Will it be something like...
Because he was exposed to that marker, he has some resistance to the others, so only Clarke can get the job done.

She wasn't real, he was hallucinating.

Got a source for that?

I thought the entire Redwood/Visceral team were working on Dante's Inferno. (demo coming Dec 10 to the US PSN)

I guess that's the way they've gone with it. It's not a bad idea, but just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

Still, the first game was ace (took me a while to get into it though) and Extraction was also fantastic, so more Dead Space could be a rather large slice of win pie.

Well it does and it doesn't.

It does in that he could have been hallucinating about her the entire time he was on the ship, the Marker made them worse/take form/be able to speak to him.

It doesn't in that she helps him out by opening doors/launching the shuttle, so we either accept that was him just hallucinating and those things didn't need doing or a necro was helping him out and took on the form of Nicole.

The hallucination thing also makes sense given the fact that he wasn't able accept that she committed suicide until the very end.

Thinking about it, we never actually saw Isaac die, did we? It was more of a suggestive scene than anything else.

That's kinda what I was getting at with the whole hallucination thing, we don't actually see what happens and there's no proof that she was turned.

So yeah, it's not as clear cut as him dying/being killed by necro nicole but it was vague/suggestive enough to give the game closure in the event of EA refusing to fund a sequel.

Need to man up first though. I don't like scary games :(
