5/10

It is decent, I just think it needed more to it.

Also... Mind telling me what actually happened in this game?

Were you in an accident? Or was Esther? And what is up with the drawings and the ghosts?

Read about this in Edge and thought it look great. Glad it's on Steam, would like it a bit cheaper though but I'll buy it now anyway. Looks pretty. :)

While a lot of specifics are missing there are enough hints to form the basis of the story and apply them to fill in the gaps. Esther died in a car accident. The cause is left vague as at one point a drunk driver is mentioned while the paintings of the wall are schematics (some are chemical symbols for alcohol) for a cars brakes. It's never made clear whether you were the person responsible or a loved one of Esther. Anyway you are overcome by her death and eventually kill yourself, or at least that is what the majority of the narrative hints at. There are clues that suggest you died in the crash too.

Add on top of that the hints of the player being in hospital with kidney stones and that's why Esther was travelling along the motorway. Hints of Damascus and the conversion of Paul from the bible suggesting that during grieving the player found religion so believes there is another life which is possibly the island or another heaven as he soars away like a bird at the end.

There is so much more there. Granted some of it you would need to discuss with other people to understand, like the schematics, but it is there if you look for it and give in to the puzzling storytelling. Only the essential pieces are given to you the rest you have to gleam from what is said and the items you find.

Cross-posting from the screenshot thread.

Screenies megapost (about 50 screens). I got totally sucked in to this, and got quite snap happy whilst I was at it. It just looks so good all the time. I'd love a mod or something that could offer a bit more camera control, maybe, but to be honest, it already looks stunning.

Although the below screenshots don't really contain any spoilers as such, I would recommend experiencing it for yourself before you spend too long looking at images of it, in case they spoil just how good these things look when they're revealed to you in game.

Such a gorgeous game, (if you can call it a game, it's more of an interactive story, really,) I can't remember the last time I was so impressed so often by what I was seeing on screen.

For what this was I couldn't fault it. Totally worth the asking price, and a great narrative experience, something very Victorian gothic about it. Very mysterious and macabre, yet eloquent and enthralling at the same time. 9/10, would play/experience again.

What a wonderful little thing this is. Utterly gorgeous too, some of the design work in the cave section is just astounding.

Find myself wanting to load it up again at some point to see whether some of the narration changes. Would also love to sit and watch someone else go through it, which is kind of a rarity in itself. Lovely stuff.

The narration does change a little each play through, and it is good to wander through a second time I found, there are things that are easily missed.

I'm going to assume you've already started and finished by now, but yes, you could.

Well, I started it, then got to the caves. Then I hit quit to menu to check how far that was through the thing to see if it was worth continuing tonight (couldn't remember if it was chapter 2 or 3 when I was starting), and it's lost all my progress. :|
